Memorial Day was observed under the American Legion with members of the Spanish War Veterans K P Odd Fellows and Boy Scouts forming at the Stockmens State Bank and proceeding to the cemetery. A cross near the entrance served as a gathering place while wreaths were placed on the cross. A firing squad, prayers, taps, and a benediction marked the ceremonies followed by addresses and poetry at the public hall. The day drew a larger assembly than prior years.
Last Tuesday evening at the high school auditorium the American Legion home talent play The Gold Mine drew a large Chateau crowd. Nat Goodwin previously starred on Broadway. A B Guthrie led the Tuesday cast as Silas K Woodcoat with strong amateur acting noted throughout. Proceeds exceeded expenditures by over 100 dollars, a welcome sign for the Legion.
