Harris Arrested on Serious Charge

Carl Harris, who has been running the restaurant at the Commercial Hotel, was arrested on a warrant by deputy state humane officer A. E. DeCew of Great Falls. He is charged with raping his six year old daughter Gladys Harris. Harris is in the county jail awaiting preliminary examination likely tomorrow with time to hire an attorney in Great Falls.

Kennedh G. McLean Dies After Illness in Choteau

Kennedh G. McLean former Choteau resident died at his Riverside California home after a Mayo Clinic transfusion and months of ill health. He had managed the Choteau Mercantile Co Strain Bros and owned the Farmers elevator here. Survived by a wife and four children. Funeral plans not announced. burial likely in California.

Red Cross Collects Knitted Items From Schools In War Effort

High school girls knitted a dozen wash cloths and many auxiliaries across towns donated socks, sweaters, bed shirts, pillows, and gun wipes. The drive aims for 100 percent Red Cross Junior membership with shipments dated and credited to contributors.

European-born Conrad man enlists in engineers corps

Sam Sollid of Conrad, a prosperous Montana real estate figure, enlisted as a private in the engineers corps and is training to serve in Europe. He cited his good fortune in America and refused any pull, asking to be placed where he could best aid the war effort. Sollid owns Dutton townsite and has wide North Montana interests. he is married and in good health despite being past draft age.

Thos. A. Smith and his wife, after two months with friends at Long Beach, Calif., returned home last Tuesday evening. They say they are well pleased to be home and believe Montana is the best place on earth to live, calling Chateau the very best town in Montana.

Inducted Into Military Service From Local Registrants

The following named registrants were voluntarily inducted and entrained for mobilization camps in the past week and will be credited to Teton county on its next draft quota. Fort Riley Kansas and Fort Leavenworth Kansas hosted units from signals and engineer corps with multiple names listed. A large portion of Terra county likely to join camps before the call is issued.
