James Gibson, Early Montana Pioneer, Dies at 72

James Gibson, former district court clerk for Teton County and early white settler near Choteau, Montana, died at his home on December 23, 1918. Born June 9, 1846 in Philadelphia, he served in the Civil War, joined expeditions westward, and became the first white resident along the Teton River north of Choteau after 1873.

Death of Mrs Henry Dale in Fairfield District

Mrs Henry Dale of Fairfield neighborhood died at the emergency hospital on Tuesday December 24 1918 after a short influenza illness. Remains were taken to Conner undertaking for burial preparation. Funeral services were set for tomorrow at Fairfield church at 1 PM conducted by Rev A Lunde. She is survived by her husband and several children and brothers Oscar Obert and Gilbert among others.

Fatal Fist Fight Claims State Chairman in Montana

O M Harvey republican state chairman and prominent Montana attorney died at 6 o'clock after a fall on the sidewalk during a fist fight with Postmaster J E Swindlehurst in Livingston. Swindlehurst surrendered to the sheriff as witnesses refused to speak. Harvey had been a local counsel for the Northern Pacific.

Rancher Suffers Ear Severing Hoof Injury

On December 25 John Morgan of Brady narrowly escaped death while tending horses. A horse kicked, severing his ear entirely. a local physician arrived and sewed the ear in place after the injury.
