Theo Halvorson chairman of the Chamber of Commerce fund drive reports $225 raised previously and an additional $85 pledged this week. With $100 from the Chamber treasury, total near the required amount to install heating in the Legion pavilion before cold weather. Van Auken Plumbing and Heating Co. holds the contract, equipment on hand, installation pending full funding.
Mrs. Thomas E. Newcome a Choteau native and long time resident of the region died Friday September 19 in St Peters hospital Helena after a five day illness. Funeral held at St Marys Cathedral Melena and burial in Resurrection cemetery Helena. She was born Mabel Bushman October 4 1895 in Dupuyer and married Thomas E Newcome in Chateau March 11 1917. Survivors include eight children Thelma Goldizen Lourain May Ray Ruth Florence Tillie Elaine and three other family members plus three brothers and three sisters and two grandchildren.
Teton county farmers with Federal Land Bank loans may deposit into a future payment fund announced by E P Patten secretary treasurer of the National Farm Loan Associations. The funds earn interest equal to mortgage rate and support national defense as they are reinvested by the land bank.

Katherine Watson born Katherine Krauskopf in Montgomery Ohio October 18 1863 died Tuesday at Chateau hospital from a stroke and infirmities of old age. Funeral Saturday September 27 at 2 p m at the Methodist church with Rev R F Vick officiating Banks Funeral Home in charge. She lived in several Montana towns and was survived by Howard Watson husband six children James Watson Lake Watson Ruth Watson and two others plus brothers and other relatives. She was active in temperance and Red Cross work during the first World War and known as a devoted wife and mother.
The Diocese of Helena divides the large St. Johns parish at Fairfield and appoints Rev Harry Delaney as pastor of the new parish with Power and Dutton as missions. Delaney, formerly at EurEka Montana, will be the first resident pastor. Installations and receptions are planned for next Sunday evening at 7 30 with a parish hall reception afterward.
The Royal Neighbors of America hold district convention in Bynum on Thursday October 2. Delegates arrive from Great Falls Cut Bank Havre Cascade Dutton Brady Conrad and Chateau with state leaders Mrs Margaret Gilchrist Mrs Orvie Storee Mrs Flora Dickson Ellis and Mrs Goldie Christie attending. A 6 o'clock dinner is planned at the M E church by the Ladies aid.
The fall Home Demonstration council meeting will be held at Chateau Saturday Sept 27. Mrs Mabel Crane of Collins is president, Mrs Ann Hart of Power vice president and Mrs Clarence Stenson secretary treasurer. Twenty home demonstration clubs will be represented. There will be election of officers and Miss Frances Smith state leader will lead a discussion on What we can do to plan effective home demonstration program. Miss Marjorie Smith of the state board of health will be present and talk on child health.
Teton county sportsmen met at the courthouse to consider cooperation with the Teton Cooperative Canal Co and the state fish and game department to take spawn from rainbow trout in Eureka reservoir. They aim to obtain permission, set inlet ditch traps during spawning, and have eggs hatched by state experts with Great Falls hatchery guidance.
Heavy rain last week and a subsequent wet snowstorm hamper county harvest operations and cause some wheat losses. Moisture boosts next season, but the current timing is discouraging for both harvest and seeding. Last weekend’s steady rain totaled .82 inches, and Wednesday’s light drizzle became a heavy snow with .38 moisture content, making roads nearly impassable before a freeze. Weather forecasts look for a stretch of favorable conditions ahead.
Health officer Dr. H. W. Bateman confirms five scarlet fever cases in the city all mild. No sleeping sickness. Quarantined are Frances Suiste Joan Cardell Al Hollingshead and two Lindseth children.
The Roy Anderson Co. of Great Falls, successful bidders on the vault construction and remodeling of the court house, are expected to move in equipment today to begin work. Vault construction will start first with office remodeling to follow to limit county official disruption.

School of Mines at Butte lists Charles Gray and Morris Léar. Great Falls Business College names Lois Gronberg. Northwestern Business College Seattle includes Margaret Stenson. Seattle College names Rosemary Tennant. University of Oregon Eugene lists Grant Curtis.
Lions club heard Walter E. Elieson of Helena describe a Gorge Deen program for retailer education. Classes begin Tuesday Sept 30 from 8 to 9 p m at the grade school auditorium, with three options taught by local men under Elieson. First meeting free, later sessions cost 2 to cover travel for the speaker.
The Chautauqua chorus holds its first rehearsal at the high school next Monday evening at eight. Mrs Mary Hanusa directs again this year and invites everyone to attend. Fairfield rehearsal at Community church is Wednesday evening October 1 with the Chautauqua dates set for October 17 through 19.
A muddy Fort Benton win left Chateau with a 7-6 defeat as Benton’s air play sealed a last pass score. Harris starred on offense while the defense backed the line. The Bulldogs start their home slate Saturday night at 8:00 against Cut Bank, with Ralph Cline refereeing.
Miss Rosalie Dardis daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Dardis of Conrad wed Sid Yeager son of Earl Yeager of Choteau Saturday afternoon at the Shelby Methodist parsonage. Attendants were Kenneth Thompson and Mrs Frank T. Lewis. The couple plan a coast trip then reside on the groom s ranch. A small fire on Tuesday morning near Carl Franks residence was put out with water before serious damage.
Hunters enjoyed a one day prairie chicken season in Pondera county taking limits of three birds. The best yields came from the territory west of Dupuyer along the mountains as duck season opens next Wednesday.
