Lions Club chairman Tom McCartney urged greater support for the annual pool carnival to cover about 7000 in debts from pool improvements. The event on Saturday Sept 20 at 7 p.m. will feature rummage bake sale games and a dance with many new attractions to appeal to all ages.
Corbett Angus and Sons dominated the Utah State Fair in Salt Lake City September 7 to 16. Bryan Corbett Dwight Winchester and Vernon Turner entered 12 head, winning grand champion bull senior champion bull junior champion bull reserve junior champion bull grand champion female senior champion female junior champion female beef cattle premier breeder and exhibitor awards plus first in yet-of-fire competition and eight other first place finishes. Corbett said the Angus show was the largest ever at the fair and the cattle captured all but six champion awards in the Angus division.
Funeral services for William Fred Holyoak 74 of Fairfield were held Monday in Great Falls with Elder John Nelson officiating. Burial followed at Highlands cemetery. Holyoak died Thursday en route to Teton Memorial Hospital. He was born July 5 1888 in Parowan Utah and lived in Cascade Great Falls before moving to Fairfield in 1937. Survivors include his widow Eva five sons Stewart Robert Harold Lee and Eugene two daughters Melvin Johnson Roy Brady David Kidd Charles Barnwell Arnold Siegle Margarite and two sisters and five brothers including Arnold Lawrence Alfred Howard Heber plus other relatives.
A total of 47 students registered in the Hunter Safety course in Chateau last Wednesday. Three classes are held each Wednesday night at 7 at the Fireman’s, Legion and Lions Club halls. Instructors include Wallace Thompson, Chuck Allen, Bob Armstrong, Bob Nauck, Bob McDonald and Bud Olson.
Mr and Mrs C B Mae son LaVane of Kalispell were overnight guests Monday of their sister in law Mrs Julia Monkman.
An out of state hunter checked at a Great Falls fish and game station with one pheasant and three magpies in his bag. The man appeared skilled in shooting but not in bird recognition. The note hints there may be a magpie bounty that could offset a pheasant bagging fine.
Fairfield residents Orin Neiffer and David Bohmer, both 19, charged with first degree burglary for Aug 20 theft at Pearson's store in Greenfield. Bond set at $3000 each, they await district court. A Great Falls juvenile was arrested by the sheriff, and the case nets about $400 in cash and merchandise.
The third annual Dutton Harvest Festival will take place Saturday September 22 starting at 10 a.m. Events include a 10 a.m. parade, 11 a.m. magic show, noon lunch, a 1:30 p.m. Dutton versus Brady football game, 4 p.m. cowboy polo, and an 8 p.m. home talent show and music with a Smorgasbord. Proceeds benefit the Dutton Community Center.

Joseph Hamilton Bush aged 33 of Cho teau died yesterday in Cut Bank. Funeral services will be held Saturday at Banks Chapel in Choteau at 2 p.m. The service includes military grave side rites.
Mr and Mrs Arnold Hanusa attended the dedication of the Great Falls Lions Park at 27th and Tenth Ave South. Mayor Swanberg accepted the presentation as Lions deputy governor Ray Carlson Fairfield delivered the main address about the park’s playgrounds equipment and a modern rest shelter.
Orville Freeman will chair and keynote a five region land and people conference on Oct 8 9 in Denver Colorado. The event seeks to stimulate rural redevelopment, conserve resources and boost local economies with input from farmers business leaders and civic officials. About 1000 attendees expected.
Sheriff Al Peterson described a weekend incident at Corbett and Sons ranch where a hunter's bullet punctured a combine tire. The report notes increased firearm safety concerns and advises caution during the remainder of the hunting season.

Paul Lee of Fairfield has bought the B and B Cafe in Choteau from R W Brown who operated it for about four years. The Browns will retire and move to Apache Junction Arizona. Lee who owns the Aragon Cafe in Fairfield has lived there since 1933 and plans to sell his Fairfield interests later.
The Choteau Chamber of Commerce discussed relocating the city dump east of the town. Members investigated sites and plan to propose moving the dump to reduce spring creek settle issues and improve camping, with Walter Henneford proposing east-of-site options and water faucets to expand facilities.
An eight point program from the car magazine editors aims to cut highway fatalities and prevent crippling accidents. It covers tougher license tests and recertification, raising the driving age, stricter drunk driving penalties, realistic speed limits with tougher enforcement, federal standards for seat belts and safety devices, semiannual vehicle inspections, stronger traffic engineering units, and uniform motor vehicle laws across states.

Mr and Mrs Charles Dahlin came home last week from a summer spent at Big Fork and Flathead Lake. They visited their son Carlton Bob Dahlin in Helena before heading to Arizona to spend the winter.
The Fairfield Lions hosted Chateau Tailtwister Duane Reisch and his trouble squad to chastise misbehaving members. A white tea kettle pot with a bicycle horn was donated, wrapped in soap, and humorously presented as a corrective gift. The pot was later returned at Chateau Lions.
Vernon Wells, a long time Choteau resident and retired tailor, died in a Teton County rest home. Funeral services are set for Friday at Banks Chapel at 10:30 a.m. Rev. C. Fred Crowe to officiate.
Republican Representative James Battin will appear at the Choteau Republican Women’s club October rally. The event features Battin and county candidates and is set for October 7 at the Cornell Hotel. The rally hosts GOP members and local candidates in the party gathering.

Nineteen year old Donald David Walker of Black Eagle drowned at Eureka Lake seven miles northwest of Chateau between 1 30 and 2 pm while skindiving with friend John Dickson. Walker swam to a raft, was found submerged, and pronounced dead byDr L S Crary after rescue attempts. The coroner noted a possible cramp and said an inquest is unlikely. He planned to attend Eastern Montana College of Education. Funeral services will be held in Great Falls with burial at Highland cemetery.
The Chateau City Council ended the irrigation restriction for this year and allows unrestricted irrigation starting Friday September 21. They approved a street light at 8th Ave NW and 3rd St NW near the Certel residence and Zion apartments, noting the water table has risen unusually for this season.
Arnold Hanusa, Montana County Volunteer Savings Bonds Chairman, reported August U S Savings Bonds sales in the state totaling 1 267 441 with the county share 16 950 The state sales for the first eight months reached 11 353 010 He noted one in four Montanans own bonds and cited safety guaranteed return and a fund to support national safety and freedom.
Graveside services were conducted Monday for Kelly Kay Green infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Alfred Green of Chateau. The 26 day old child is survived by her parents and four grandparents Les Certel Gradon Green and Mr and Mrs Gradon Green.

William Shortridge Sr., 77, longtime Augusta rancher, died Tuesday evening at Galen Hospital. Born July 19, 1885, he served as past master of the Augusta Masonic Lodge and belonged to the Eastern Star and Shriner groups. Surviving are four sons William Lee Dick of Great Falls, Ray and Augusta. one daughter Mee Ada Tramelli. Mrs Virginia Melvin and Mrs Dorothy Bordech, all of Great Falls. a sister Mrs Rene Levings of Missouri. and 20 grandchildren.
Choteau Explorer Scouts will depart this weekend to gather 40 bushels of Douglas fir cones in the mountains west of Choteau. The U S Forest Service contracts guide the collection seeds will go to a St Regis forest nursery for seedlings then returned to origin. Assistant ranger Bob Brown notes seedlings survive best when planted at the collection altitude. Dr Richard Crabtree explorer adviser will accompany the group.
