New owner C. R. Poore says the Beaupre House Hotel will become Hotel Cornell amid ongoing remodeling. A marquee and neon sign will mark the corner, with lobby updates and plans for ground floor apartments and upstairs rooms. Completion is uncertain due to material shortages.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Larson 77 of Bynum were held at Trinity Lutheran church Choteau with Rev A Gravdal officiating. Burial followed in Choteau cemetery. Memorial gifts go to Trinity Lutheran chimes fund. She was born March 15 1873 in Aalesund Norway and died Aug 28 in Great Falls hospital. Her life included emigration to America in 1890 and homesteading near Bynum in 1898. Survivors include daughter Pernilla Savik and five sons Clarence Pete Edward Lewis Lowry Savik and Martin Larson plus seven grandchildren and sister Stina Overvold. One son Harold Savik died in 1942.
Oscar Richem a well known Chateau resident is reported progressing well after an operation for a perforated ulcer at a Great Falls hospital. He had been ill for about a week and was stricken while in a field at 3 30 pm Mrs Richem said. Neighbors and friends aided the family during this busy period helping with hay winter wheat seeding harvest and fence repairs with 11 volunteers aiding this week.
A public reception for Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Hodgdon is planned this Sunday at Trinity Lutheran church parlors. The 5:30 p.m. event marks their golden wedding anniversary and invites friends and neighbors to attend.
A September night storm caused damage at a ranch west of Chateau when lightning hit a transmission line and knocked out six telephone line insulators. The same storm affected Pishkun reservoir with a severe lightning event while temperatures peaked across the state at Chateau 92 and Miles City 105.
Pvt. Raymond H. Nordhagen 18, son of Mrs. Johanna W Nordhagen of Choteau, starts a doctrination training course at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas. The program provides basic military prep, vocational testing, and guidance to place him in a suitable technical training track. Lackland serves as indoctrination for new airmen and a center for re-enlistee training and officer candidate programs.
Open season for ducks geese and coots announced with Montana dates October 6 to 23 and November 17 to December 4. Bag limits similar to last year. No automatic loading or repeating shotguns holding more than three shells unless plugged. Daily hours same as last year from half hour before sunrise to half hour before sunset. First day of each split prohibits hunting before noon.
Katherine Ritenour and Vernon E. Sylvester were married in a double ring candlelight service at Pendroy Methodist Church. Rev. Harold Engdahl and Rev. Daniel McCorkle officiated. The bride wore a white lace wedding gown with a Juliet cap veil and carried white gladioli and red roses. maid of honor Rose Mary Ritenour led attendants in green outfits. A reception for 135 guests followed.
Farmers in Teton county await warm dry weather for a prolonged period to finish late harvests. With frost risk Penny frost could spoil yields though most grain appears good. Several thousand bushels have been delivered to Chateau elevators and frost reports near Valier have damaged some fields.
Registered Power taxpayers vote Saturday September 16 from 12 noon to 8 pm on a 70 000 building bond to expand the Power school adding a gymnasium and classrooms in district 30. Construction would start next winter with completion by fall of next year pending approval.
Teton County keeps non school levies at 1950 51 levels though property values fell. General fund 13.50 mills and other funds listed including airport 0.60 and noxious weed 1.00. School levies total 33.18 mills with various maintenance and transportation allocations. New district bonds appear for Chateau Fairfield and Power high schools.
On opening day 442 students filled Choteau schools with 144 registered at Choteau High School and 298 in grades. High school breakdown shows 54 freshmen 27 sophomores 27 juniors and 36 seniors. Grade two uses two rooms and two teachers with 47 pupils.

Last rites for William Wiseman 82 retired farmer from Choteau were conducted by Rev A Bernard Grady at Trinity Lutheran church. Interment was in Choteau cemetery. Wiseman born December 16 1868 in Waverly Iowa moved to Teton county in 1905 later resided at Choteau since 1938. He married Jessie Zuidema February 21 1908 no children survived by his wife who died in 1943. A brother Charles lives in South Bend Ind attended. Pallbearers were George Stranger Guy Kale Yelte Bakken Jesse Davis William Van Setten and George Thompson. Relatives Paul Zuidema Fort Benton and James Wiseman Glendive attended.
The sheriff reports Pete Kimmerly arrested Aug 30 is held on forgery charges and will appear in district court Sept 15. Arthur DePape John Demsey and Russell Engebritson were also arrested for drunken and disorderly conduct with a $25 fine or 124 days in jail option.
Local Methodist church plans a Sunday Sept 10 picnic in Freeman's grove for public school staff. Dinner is pot luck at 1 pm. Men will host races stunts and games with prizes, and provide equipment for baseball volleyball croquet and horseshoes on the grounds. All friends invited.
Rural residents face another grass range fire danger season as dry weather raises fire risk. The Teton county sheriff urges precautions on farms and ranches and notes new county truck equipment with improved water pressure. Fire calls should be made to the sheriff at 4492 or to local contact numbers 4413 and 5554.
The American Legion auxiliary will hold its first meeting on September 11 at 8 oclock. Reports on the department convention and Girls State will be heard. Special musical numbers by the auxiliary chorus and Girls State delegates are planned. A good turnout is urged.
The Soroptomist club will sponsor a rummage sale to benefit Tetun Memorial Hospital. The exact date will be announced soon.
Teton County PMA Chair Jake Luinstra announces that loans on wheat barley flaxseed and rye will not be made until grain has been stored for 30 days to protect producers from poor quality grain. It also lists loan rates by commodity and notes existing premiums and storage fees.
Sgt. Ray W. Robinson of Agawam a World War II veteran has been called to active duty with the United States Air Force. He reported to a Portland Oregon processing center for examination. He previously enlisted in Fresno California October 6 1942 and was discharged October 19 1945. He trained at Jamestown North Carolina Scott Field Illinois and Flight Training SAAF Missouri and served with the 10th Carrier Squadron in the China Burma India theater in 1944 1945 earning the DFC and two battle stars.
