State Sells Mortgaged Lands Amid Growing Demand
Montana reports strong land sales through 1926 to June 30 with 83,428 acres sold for 684,551.71 and continued gains into 1927 and 1928. The state plans November sales in several northern counties under an amortization plan. The land board notes mortgage-held lands will be largely under contract by year end and asserts mortgage sales support long term economic benefits. Sheep valuations rise across 11 counties with Rosebud and Powder River counties showing notable increases while Lewis and Clark gains lead among counties. The three cent gasoline tax for August 1-20 brings in 226,000 and the highway fund may hit 2,000,000 by early next year.

Livestock Day Planned in Denton With Train Arrival
Farming Duncan of Denton heads the committee organizing Livestock Day to be held in Denton when the livestock special train arrives in October. The train will operate over Milwaukee routes in central Montana and Great Northern routes in northern Montana. Montana Extension service is preparing exhibits for the train. A. W. He was extension agronomy specialist 1920 to April 1 of this year and then executive secretary of the American Farm Seed association. He died August 26 in Salt Lake City Utah after an International Crop Improvement district meeting. Due to low winter wheat yields in Fergus county farmers plan to shift from winter to spring wheat. Over the last decade winter wheat has performed better, so one third to one half of acreage may be planted to winter varieties to reduce risk.
