Teton County Sends First Contingent to Camp Lewis
Teton county’s first group of men for the army left Choteau for Camp Lewis in Washington under the charge of Chas J Watts. About 80 men are in each of the next two parties with 40 percent departing Sept 19 and Oct 3. A farewell included theater, banquet, and dance with local leaders speaking.

Local Volunteers Enlist for War Service
Val LaFrance and Walter Streeter of Chsteau have enlisted this week for military service. LaFrance joins the quartermaster department while Streeter enters the field artillery. They are awaiting transportation to leave for Spokane.
Waldron creek fire near Lewistown extinguished after near 1500 acres burned
The Waldron Creek fire in the Lewis and Clark forest threatened 1500 acres of timber along the north fork of the Teton and Sun rivers. It burned about 750 acres before containment after high winds, with 150 workers brought from Great Falls and a coordinated operation including pack trains and multiple foremen. Rain helped ease the situation and crews were reduced as small fires within lines were patrolled and extinguished.

The food administration grain corporation will start buying the U S wheat crop on September 4 at a base price of 2 20 a bushel for No 1 northern Chicago. Prices vary by grade and region with 2 30 in New York and 2 15 in Omaha Kansas City and other markets. Lower grades receive discounts and export purchases are paid after unloading with warehouse receipts.
