Ferdinand D. Kingsbury long a Montana pioneer and banker and Masonic leader died at his Conrad home Wednesday morning at 95. Born January 3 1862 in Missouri he came to Montana in 1887 and held multiple posts including Pondera County treasurer. Funeral services were held Friday at the Conrad Presbyterian church with burial in Hillside cemetery.

Sinclair reports an oil show in its No 1 Gitchel well in the Gypsy Basin Teton County west of Pondera. Madison oil reached 3280 feet with a 3285 to 3301 test flowing oil and gas, recovery of mud, and no water. Core 3301 to 3314 shows vuggy lime with traces of dead oil and sulfur water. The wildcat extends past 3387 toward the oil zone test.

Dick Monroe outlined the history of waterfowl management, noting drainage and hunting control issues that reduced populations and detailing Montana’s habitat development since 1948. The project, centered in the Central flyway, serves as a major stopover for ducks geese and swans but faced an outlet problem as runoff raised the lake level threatening nearby grazing lands.

Genoa Farmer Ends Fuel Shortage With Short Wave Message
Arthur Neyland a 68 year old Genoa area farmer and amateur radio operator learned his propane tank was empty during a storm. He used a short wave radio to contact his son Maj Lewis Neyland in Washington DC and arranged a refill from a Great Falls gas supplier. He and his wife kept warm by an electric oven until delivery arrived.

Thieves Rob State Store In Dutton October 18
Thieves broke into the Dutton State Liquor store Friday night October 18 and took money and merchandise worth more than 1900 dollars, according to the Teton County Sheriff's office. This is the second such break-in in recent months. Deputy Davette of Pairfield investigated the robbery.
