Gene Lease 18 the son of Mr and Mrs Henry Lease of Fairfield was killed in action in Korea on Sept 26 the war department notified his parents He was a Marine Corps Reserve member called to duty after the Korean War outbreak His unit left Shelby Aug 9 for Camp Pendleton Calif Overseas duty began about Sept 1 landed Kobe Japan after 20 days aboard ship He served with the First Marine Division which landed at Inchon and helped recapture Seoul He was born Oct 27 1931 in Great Falls came to Fairfield in 1936 attended Fairfield schools and would have been a Fairfield High senior He was an outstanding FFA member winning several awards He exhibited sheep at the North Montana State Fair in Great Falls this summer winning four prizes He also played for the Fairfield FFA basketball team which has won district titles He rode in the Greenfield Roundup Saddle Club and rode bareback bucking drones in amateur rodeos Memorial services will be announced.

Youth Awarded Air Medal In Korean War
Dupuyer sergeant Kenneth N. Roberts of the First Cavalry Division earned the Air Medal with two oak leaf clusters for 28 missions as an aerial observer. He directed artillery fire on Communist targets, warned troops of incoming shells, and helped reduce casualties by coordinating fire and battlefield reconnaissance.

Dean Sala, former Breen Oil Co. employee from Choteau, reported wounded in action in Korea on Sept. 27. Details on injuries were not disclosed. Sala, in the Marine Corps Reserve, left Choteau Aug. 9 and reported for duty at Shelby. His wife Marian is in Meneola Texas. Bobby Scott, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Scott of Chateau, is in Seoul, engaged in patrol duty and prisoner pickup. He notes thousands of prisoners arriving and that General McArthur returned Seoul to the South Koreans. A sergeant from his company reportedly raised the first UN flag in Korea.

Four Autos In Car Wrecks Saturday Night
Four autos were involved in crashes on a county road west of Fairfield last Saturday night. Harvey Dale drove a 1950 Chevrolet into a 1928 International truck driven by James Tinney, with Dennis Tinney as passenger. both Tinney brothers suffered head cuts while James Tinney faced a juvenile license issue. Dale received a $25 fine for reckless driving. A 1929 Model A pickup driven by William Zidt rolled down an embankment on Cale Hill. no injuries, Zidt fined $10 for reckless driving. Robert Nauck, driving a 1950 Chevrolet west of Fairfield, overturned in a bar pit after allegedly falling asleep. car damaged, Nauck charged with reckless driving.
