Two new Chateau buildings near completion include a clothing store on Main Avenue named Town and Country, owned by Eddie Howard, set to open late this month. A medical clinic on First Street West owned by Dr. Lyle Crary is due for completion between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The two 18 day periods run Oct 6 to 23 and Nov 17 to Dec 4 with opening at 12 noon on Oct 6 and Nov 17. Daily limits: up to 5 ducks or 5 geese with restrictions including up to 2 Canada geese and 3 snow geese. possession limits vary by day. guns plugged to 3 shells. rifles and pistols prohibited. Shooting hours are listed for each date.
Mr and Mrs Clarence Carlson of the Farmington bench will be honored Sunday October 8 for their 25th Silver Wedding Anniversary. A tea and open house from 2 to 5 p.m. at Trinity Court will feature lunch and a program. Friends from the Chateau vicinity are invited.
The Chateau high school driver training class on Friday September 29 organized a safety club and elected Flora Eileen Graham president Jean Raymond vice president Margaret Kelly secretary treasurer and Joan Rowley public relations officer The club aims to promote traffic safety and correct dangerous driving practices observed in downtown Chateau noting violations persist.
Co. E. Babe Russell recently bought the A. B. Guthrie house and 15 acres for 20000 and aims to remodel interior. Moulton and Son handle repairs including flooring plumbing and roof work. He intends to move in by November. The property includes a barn and garage.
The fourth annual Methodist Youth Fellowship Halloween carnival is scheduled for October 31 at the pavilion. Everyone is welcome.
Lions club pool reports a net loss of 737.75 for the season with expenses totaling 1 256 50 and ticket sales 518 75. Chair man Charlie Bowers notes salaries 750, light and power 50 92, gas 162 58, admissions 103 75, and repairs 189 25. The group expects Days of 49 funds to offset deficits, with possible major equipment replacements in coming years.
A 17 jewelled shockproof Wyler wrist watch will be given away free to a ticket holder at the Chateau-Shelby football game. Bob Crocker donates the watch, with a stunt dropping it from 1 000 feet over Choteau airport. The event was announced after plans shifted to avoid injury risk. the watch now sits in display at Bob's Time shop.
Chateau Fire Department in September meeting backs National Fire Prevention Week Oct 8 14 and assigns posters to a committee of Bud Taylor Hal Ferris and Oliver Hanson. They stress house numbers street markers and owner printing of the fire number 3121 on phone book covers.
Fort Benton Longhorns boosted their northern division title push with a 22 to 0 victory over Chateau on a snow covered gridiron. Fort Benton had earlier beaten Shelby 47 to 13 and next faces Shelby Friday night at Chateau field at 8. The Longhorns struck with a blocked kick in the first quarter and added later scores, including a two yard plunge and an end run by Emberton and Smith setting the plays. A late fourth quarter safety padded the final margin as Fort Benton piled up 12 first downs to Chateau’s one.
Republican incumbent Congressman Wesley D'Ewart will address questions on the federal government at a public meeting in the court room of the court house at Chateau next Wednesday night Oct 11 at 8 p.m. Everyone is invited. He will also meet with the Teton Republican Central committee and precinct leaders at the Berupre at 6:30 p.m. Oct 11.
Construction planned for a 12 room Chateau elementary school building may begin next spring with Dr. Monkman, school board chair, presenting floor plans at a PTA meeting. If on schedule, the new facility could be ready for use next fall. PTA funds and projects include organizing a school library, book repairs, phonograph recordings, rural student transportation plans, and a UN flag initiative.
Frederick Gardner Campbell 69 of Bynum died Thursday in Great Falls after a year with cancer. He was born January 15 1881 in Bryant South Oak and settled in Montana in 1888. He married Pearl Humble Leach in 1917. survivors include wife three sons a stepdaughter four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Interment was at Bynum Cemetery with pallbearers named.
Grain hay especially oat hay may be dangerous as livestock feed this year. The Montana Experiment Station recommends sampling hay from stacks or windrows, sending it to Bozeman for a nitrite test, and limiting initial feeding to one animal until safety is confirmed. Poisonous nitrite formation occurs when hay is wet and can vary within a stack.
The Bynum Dance club is forming with an opening dance not yet set. Dances will be at LDS hall in Bynum with insulation and a new heating unit. Wednesday mixed dances with instruction offered and planned to avoid Farmington conflicts. Hap py Four orchestra to play and memberships at $10 per couple. Ed Otermolte at Chateau Coast to Coast store invites interested residents to join. memberships will be limited.
The Chateau Lions club will present a banquet honoring all who helped at Days of 49 last weekend. The dinner is scheduled for next Tuesday at 7 PM at Lions club hall. All Lions and helpers, members or not, are urged to attend.
A Montana Taxpayer survey of 57 cities shows 33 with higher total 1950 rates and 24 with lower rates. Anaconda leads in hikes with 113.92 per thousand, while Glendive cuts 6.35. Kalispell municipal cuts offset by school taxes. Chateau remains comparatively light at 115.68. Havre’s total levy stays near 100.36 amid mixed changes.
C Wilson Gray 58 of Gallatin Gateway died last Wednesday after three years illness. A World War I air corps veteran and former Choteau rancher, he moved to Gallatin Gateway in 1947. Funeral services were held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Masonic Temple Choteau with burial in Choteau cemetery. Pallbearers included Jess Gleason and others. survivors include wife Irene Askew Gray and sons Charles David and Fred, all in Bozeman area, plus grandchildren and a sister Mrs Bessie Kirkaldie.
Bill Wrixon Jr formerly of Chateau and now in Pasco Wash suffered serious injuries in a car wreck near Spokane. He was unconscious for a week and is being transferred to a Washington veteran's hospital after a Montana State University football trip.
