Byron Corson brought an 8 horse power Orient automobile to town on Friday with two seats and a top. A burned spark plug from poor oil feed caused a delay on the trip from Collins. Corson expects quick repairs and preparations for business. Barnes King mine swindle ruins investors in Kendall district
The Barnes King mine, once hailed as a bonanza in Kendall district, collapsed as a giant swindle. On October 2, stock on the Butte exchange traded at 75 cents, down from 3.30 earlier, with par value 5 dollars. Stockholders in Butte and elsewhere suffered heavy losses including bankruptcies, and promoters' friends and relatives were among the victims. An investigation was unfavorable, claims of 50,000 dollars in ore and 275,000 dollars in treasury exist, and steps to punish the swindlers are talked about.

Fire destroys separator and grain at Monkman ranch
Last Thursday around 5 p m a fire at the Monkman ranch near Bynum damaged the grain and Kerr Hanson separator. The blaze started from a spark from the engine. Monkman estimates a loss of 300 to 400 dollars while Kerr Hanson faces about 1200 dollars. The water tank was away, but a new steel separator ordered by Kerr Hanson will be in service soon.
