Teton County lost a bid for Civil Works relief after officials failed to meet the required road and poor fund levies. Officials said Washington halted relief and shifted to employment programs, with 15,000 workers slated for Montana projects. The board may revisit the matter at December's meeting as plans for the Chateau-Dutton road progress.
Registered unemployed in Teton county topped the 400 mark as of last Friday with 398 on the local rolls and 76 new registrations that day. The state re employment service reports 30,000 unemployed not on relief and 6,109 placed in public works by November 11, with weekly placements still rising. Veterans with dependents who reside in the county where work is done receive initial preference, while nonresident veterans remain unaffected by the latest ruling.

Harry Young of Agawam to erect a ground floor 32 by 94 foot one story hall at Claude siding four miles northwest of Chateau on the Great Northern highway. The building will include a 32 by 80 dance hall and a 14 by 32 beer parlor with possible tourist cabins later. Material to come from dismantling the Agawam hotel, built around 1915 by Great Falls interests. A Great Falls firm handles demolition and erection. work to proceed as weather allows.
The Teton County Shipping Association will ship its annual Christmas turkeys on December 6. One loading point is planned with a possible second location discussed. Turkeys will be graded at the old Pioneer garage as last year. H J Moon of Pendray named official grader. grading rules unchanged. J E Hodgskiss assists with grading and packing for wheat allotment work in Toole and Liberty counties.

Joe Scott longtime Choteau resident dies after strokes in hospital age around mid to late sixties or seventies. He lived in Te ton County since the 1890s, worked with sheep and was linked to prominent flockmasters including Senator T. O. Larson. Funeral held at Methodist church with burial in Chateau cemetery. survivors include a Great Falls brother and several Canadian relatives.
The 1926 grazing report by Forest Ranger W. N. Streeter shows the Teton district grazed 3 000 cattle and 14 250 sheep, near carrying capacity with 95 percent of limits hit. Drought and late rains affected forage, markets were weak for cattle while sheep revenues rose 40 to 60 percent. Two drift fences were built at high cost, and two cattle deaths from poison were recorded along with 171 sheep lost to poisonous vegetation.
Mrs Julius Hirshberg travels Tuesday to Tacoma Washington to join her daughter Miss Tischelle Hirshberg a sophomore at Annie Wright Seminary for Thanksgiving. They will also visit Seattle friends during the trip.
The Choteau Calumet a historic Montana Territory weekly from December 25 1885 is rediscovered in J R Pollock home attic. It details Democratic roots in Chouteau county with Buck editing and a brief run before The Tetom Times replaced it.
The county treasurer reports early 1933 tax payments total 98 941 64 dollars, 27.85 percent of the amount charged, higher than 24 23 percent at the same point in 1932. Charged for collection this year is 355 955 30 dollars versus 446 184 66 last year, with the first half payment period extended by one day due to Thanksgiving.
