Annual Boy Scout Drive Planned for Next Wednesday

Local scouting sponsors including the Chateau Lions club American Legion and Odd Fellows organize a fundraising drive for the coming year. A 7 a.m. breakfast on December 5 will welcome workers wives and mothers by sending their men to work. An afternoon snack will follow as volunteers report results. Troop 51 led by Scoutmaster Bob Armstrong and senior leaders Duke Crary and Jack Peterson oversees 42 registered boys in Northern Montana.

Purple Heart Awarded to Clifton Swanson in Korea Action

The Purple Heart is conferred on Cpl. Clifton H. Swanson Pendroy for wounds received in Korea. He was wounded October 26 1951 near Mago ri while serving with the 1st Cavalry division 5th Cavalry regiment. Swanson has since returned to duty after a limited objective attack in the mountains northwest of Yonchon.

Paul Joramo Service Held This Afternoon

Paul Joramo 85 a rancher from near Bynum died of a heart attack Monday at Choteau hospital after a brief illness. The Rev A Bernard Gravdal officiated at services at Trinity Lutheran Church with pallbearers Tom Larson Guy Miller Gordon Monkman Frank George A Peterson and Adolph Saterlie. Interment followed in Chateau cemetery. Born January 25 1866 in Lesje Norway he came to America in 1903 settling on a ranch near Bynum and homesteading there in 1907. He married Ragnhild Amantigard in 1893. Surviving are two sons Edward Joramo and Emerick Joramo and daughter Mrs Mary Kjelsrud plus seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and many relatives in Norway. Parents were Erick and Marit Joramo.

Miller Named Head of State School in Helena

Miss Miller former assistant to the state vocational school for girls at Helena was named acting superintendent of the Helena school effective Saturday. She will succeed Gertrude Davis who resigned. Miller, formerly Chateau public school principal for 17 years until 1941, also served as deputy assessor in Cascade county and deputy to former State Superintendent Elizabeth Ireland. Choteau Soldier Discusses Korean War Experience

Corporal Bob Scott, the first Choteau man discharged from the army after 33 months, says the United States entered the Korean war wisely. He served with the 10th Army MP HQ in Korea and believes the war has allowed time to prepare for a potentially broader conflict. He notes there is debate among veterans about military planning versus General MacArthur's policies.

Swen Wiprud Funeral Rites Held at Dutton

Funeral services for Swen Wiprud 91 of Dutton were held Monday afternoon at the Dutton Lutheran church with Rev. A Bernard Gravdal and Rev. G V Tollefson presiding. Burial followed in Dutton cemetery. Born June 16 1860 in Norway he immigrated to America in 1886 settling in Minnesota and moved to Dutton in 1910 to homestead. He was a charter member of the Dutton Lutheran church and a retired farmer.
