Recreation school trains five groups in county

Five recreation school sessions sponsored by the county extension agents drew about 650 participants. Miss Jane Farwell led the two day program at Legion hall with high attendance Monday night and groups from Fairfield Chateau Greenfield and other communities. Farwell travels to eight Montana schools this month continuing her National Recreation Association work.

Lieutenant Arnold Neiswender Believed Killed in Seattle Flight

The only son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Neiswender of Collins is believed killed after taking off from the naval air station in Seattle at 3 15 p m. His return time was 4 30 p m and the craft carried fuel for only 33 hours. Navy officials say nothing was heard after departure. Army navy and coast guard units aided a wide ground and air search of the area and all possible crash information was investigated. A university naval science professor expressed sympathy noting the officer’s fine reputation and honesty.

Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick Delights Local Audience

A packed high school auditorium enjoyed St Beale Cormack s three act rural comedy Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick staged Thursday benefitting church by the Lutheran Brotherhood. Walter Dauwalder led with a homey Oklahoma Will Rogers portrayal while Duane Baker charmed as Sis the tomboy. Edith Peterson as Widder Rosy and Hazel Nordhagen as the Girl in Red drew strong applause for lively performances. The cast and director delivered mostly polished acting with periodic lag in spots and mid show entertainments by Rev H L Engdahl and Ed Oberwolte on accordion amid cheers from first and last nighters.

First Air Patient Flies by Plane From California

The first air ambulance journey to Choteau used a Beachcraft plane from Mis soula via Salt Lake City to Great Falls. Mrs. Margaret Galvin, mother of Mrs. Jerry Breen, traveled from Long Beach to bring the patient to Choteau where she is now at the local hospital.

Legion Auxiliary Christmas Party At Legion Club

Members of the Legion auxiliary will hold a Christmas Party Monday night at the Legion club rooms. Mrs. Jack Armstrong will chair and present a musical program. Members donate 25 cents each to be sent to veterans at Fort Harrison. Guests may invite one eligible member. refreshments follow.

Georgie Kaye and his West Coast dance orchestra hit the American Legion park pavilion in Choteau for a one night engagement sponsored by the American Legion. Proceeds aid pavilion improvements as the band features Ralph Kaye Art Wilkinson and Andy Mello with notable wartime connections.

Band Instructor Joins Chateau High School Staff

Wilbert Maynard arrives from Chillcothe Missouri to serve as band instructor at Chateau High School. He previously taught at Chillicothe Business College and the State Home for Girls until November 15. Married with a son in high school, the family stays at the Glenloyd hotel while locating an apartment. Maynard has studied under noted musicians and composers and has led bands and orchestras in various roles.

Montana to spend 153000 on road improvements in county area

The Montana Highway Commission plans major work on the Dutton-Chateau road at four point nine miles costing about 54000 and on the Pendrey-Conrad road nine miles in Teton and Pondera counties at about 99000. Sealed bids for the Sutton project are due by December 10.

Artist Stevenson Showcases etched works in Choteau events

Montana artist from Great Falls presented etchings lithographs and color works before the Choteau Women's club Lions club and at the high school and Royal theater. About 80 pieces were displayed, funds raised supported the public library along with book donations and a film shown at the Royal theater.

Bulldogs Open Cage Season With Two-Night Stand

Chateau Bulldogs start the 1946 basketball season with a two night home stand facing Belt Friday and Dutton Saturday. Coach Ancel predicts a rough early game and lists Hinman, Dahl in, Jackson, LeTerman, Rose, Swanson or Larry Dell as starters with Delloo Payne Olson and Gon Delloo among reserves.
