Transmitter Installed At Chateau Airport To Aid Landing

Richard Dauwalder reports completion of a low frequency transmitter at Chateau Airport. The 269 kilo cycles unit, with a small building and two antenna poles, allows incoming planes to home in from 100 miles away or more. Installed by the Montana Aeronautics Commission with state aviation gas tax funds, poles and some labor donated by local pilots.

Three Arrested for Breakin of F S Cabin

Three men were arrested Nov. 8 by county officers for misdemeanor trespass after breaking into a Forest Service cabin on Wrong Creek in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Victor Davis Terry Peterson and Gary Hamerall pleaded guilty, fined $100 each, given 10 days suspended, and ordered to restitute cabin damage.

Mike Greely Revises Ruling on County Clinic Use

AP from Helena reports Attorney General Mike Greely has changed his ruling on using Revenue sharing funds for a county medical building at Chateau. He says the project will provide public services and housing for county medical staff, not solely private physician use, and supports ongoing construction by Zion Construction of Choteau.

Emily Magee Dies Nov 15 At Great Falls

Funeral services for Mrs. Walter Emily Magee 82 were held in St. Joseph's Church Choteau with Rev. Kerrigan officiating Burial was in Choteau Cemetery Zwerneman Mortuary in charge Magee died Nov 15 in a Great Falls hospital She was born July 17 1895 on the Browning ranch and married Walter Magee June 24 1915 They lived in Billings and South Dakota before settling in Chateau where Magee was a deputy sheriff After her husband's death in 1966 she moved to Great Falls and belonged to St Luke the Evangelist Church and the altar society Survivors include daughters Mickie Shelmerdine Roxard Clarke June Kelly and Phyllis Thuillier a sister Beatrice Montgomery a brother Charles Pendergrass seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren

Pie Contest Planned at Sears Catalog Store

Chateau area women are invited to participate in the second annual Sears Catalog Store pie baking contest held Saturday Nov. 26. All pies must arrive by 2 p.m. There are two categories crust and two crust pies, with one prize in each. After judging the pies will be sold by the swim team.

City Council Updates Building Permit and Pavilion Charges

The City Council raised building permit fees effective December 1, setting a minimum of five dollars up to five hundred and scaling with costs beyond that. Pavilion rental policy also changes from January 1 with charges for chance, meeting hall, and kitchen use. The meeting covered police, parking lot lease, garbage deposits for nonresidents, and planning board proposals for a Corbett Trailer Court north of KOA.

Christmas Shopping Hours Announced by Chamber

The Chamber of Commerce sets extended Chateau store hours for Christmas shoppers. Stores stay open until 9 p.m. on Dec 9 16 and 19–23, close at 4 p.m. Dec 24 to let clerks celebrate. A free Saturday matinee at the Roxy Theatre and a Santa visit with treats are planned for children.

Roger D. Smith Dies at 67 in Choteau

Roger D. Smith, 67, died Thursday of an apparent heart attack at his home in Choteau. Services were held Monday at St Josephs Church with burial in Chateau Cemetery. He was born Sept 3, 1910 in Walcott North Dakota and married Veronica Glowka in 1935. He worked as a meat cutter for Rexs Thriftway from 1968 until retirement. Survivors include his widow a son Donad R of Washington DC another son Lester W of Great Falls a daughter Gail Wilson Shelby and a sister in California. A daughter Carol Baumgartner preceded him in death.

Allen Redmond Funeral Service Held Friday

Allen Redmond 68 died Tuesday at his home in Choteau. Funeral services were held Friday in Burns Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Engh officiating. Burial followed in Choteau Cemetery. He was born Sept. 12, 1909 in Iowa and moved to Choteau in 1913. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic for Teton County and was with Richem Construction at his death. Survived by sisters Lani Loebs, Connie Bastien, Faye Redmond, Helen Yeager, Warrella Chandler. eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Choteau High Sports Banquet Set for Wednesday

Choteau High School will honor the football and girls basketball teams with a Wednesday banquet at 6 30 p m in the Choteau pavilion. It will be a potluck dinner with awards including letters numerals and other honors. Mothers of the junior players lead the planning, with Stan Rasmussen as master of ceremonies.

Country Club Meeting Set At Chateau Club
