Reverend Opie Pioneer Missionary Remembered in Augusta Service

The community choir led the Sunday service in the Community church for Reverend Opie born in England who served as pioneer Methodist missionary in Augusta before entering the Episcopal ministry in 1927. He died in Salt Lake City after an embolism. Survived by wife Bridie living with daughter Mrs Wiggs in Nampa Idaho and son Warden of Rock Springs Wyoming plus several grandchildren.

Bulldogs and Malta Battle To Narrow Defeat In Montana Grid Fight

The Hi-Line champions the Choteau Bulldogs lost 20-14 to Malta Mustangs in a tight northern Montana divisional final at Malta. Two fumbles, a one foot short first down, and a late drive halt with a holding penalty swung the score as Malta captured the title in a closely contested game.

Water line plan eyed for Choteau city supply

John Hall Fort Shaw was named engineer in charge of a water line project from the new north side spring to the city pump house and the installation of a storage tank on golf course hill. The November council meeting approved plans for a 500 000 gallon reservoir and related city improvements. Hall projected a 10 million gallon daily capacity and noted current flow may approach 1.5 million gallons daily with development.

Fake M D With Ex Local Girl Arrested In Montana

A 22 year old man Howard Javes Henshaw was arrested in Choteau by the sheriff with FBI agents for posing as a physician and driving a 1946 Chevrolet sedan off a Spokane used car lot. He claimed to have just interned at Sacred Heart hospital and planned a Coeur d Alene practice. He had prior forgery probation in Spokane and admitted writing bad checks in Montana. Margaret Dutro, formerly of Choteau, was with him.

County Legion Open House and Banquet Schedule

Helena hosts an open house for all Teton county American Legion and auxiliary members on Sunday November 23. Open house runs 5 to 6 pm at the Legion club rooms followed by a banquet at 6 30 pm in the Consistory Shrine temple dining room with a program after. This annual event features a home coming for Rev Father Frank L Harrington newly elected national chaplain.

The Lutheran junior choir will meet at 11 oclock Sunday morning after the Sunday school service. All junior choir members are urged to be present so that choir robes can be ordered.

William Brocre, formerly the cemetery sexton, becomes Choteau city marshal today replacing resigning Martin Rose. Brocre served two seasons as cemetery caretaker from April through September. Rose’s future plans are indefinite. Breere assumed marshal duties this morning.

Triple Treat musical show planned for Choteau High

The Choteau High School music department will present a Friday night show at the high school auditorium. It features the high school band a one act operetta Mountain Music and the junior band in the first in a series of school concerts. Director Wilbert Maynard urges public attendance to support school music. The date shift was due to Lions Club Ladies Night on Nov 21.

Red Cross To Teach Home Nursing In Teton County

The Red Cross sponsors home nursing classes in Teton county taught by Mrs. Leo Granger and Mrs. Lara Hensley. Classes are limited to 10 students, six two hour sessions, with later baby care topics. Instructors attend a training conference in Great Falls Nov 5 to 12 before teaching.

Mrs Van Cleave Named Blue Cross Head Here

Ruby M. Van Cleave of Choteau has been named representative for Blue Cross as the plan expands to accept new members and renewals. The Montana effort combines Blue Cross hospital coverage with The Doctors Plan, offering free physician services in the hospital and $4 daily hospital benefits for at least 21 days per year. Crawford Girl Dies At Seattle Hospital

Mrs George Robbins 36 nee Clara Crawford of Choteau died November 11 in a Seattle hospital. Born July 25 1911 on a Dutton area farm, she attended Teton county high school in Chateau and moved to California in 1929. She married George Robbins in Burlington Washington in 1932 and is survived by her husband and daughter Mary Lou 15, three brothers Lester Crawford Sam Crawford Allan Crawford and four sisters Mrs Charles Snyder Mrs A L Tempel Mrs Faltin Kolste and Mrs T J Cheetham.

Trap Marksmen Net 29 Turkeys and Hams in Shoot

Fifty nine turkeys and hams were won by trap artists in a VFW sponsored event on a golf course hill last Sunday. R. C. Jefferies of Cut Bank won six prizes and the grand turkey. Competitors hailed from Kevin, Cut Bank, Valier and Great Falls. Upcoming shoots are planned in Valier Fairfield and Great Falls on Sunday November 23.

General Mills Dow Officials Speak At Weed Meeting

About 70 farmers attended a weed eradication program by General Mills at Chateau Legion Pavilion on Monday November 17. Dow Chemical demonstrated 24-D spray and dust methods with film shows. Local General Mills manager I. J. Ferguson superintendent W. L. Simpson and Dow’s Lou Smith spoke. A similar session was held in Dutton the prior day.
