Farmers gain tax edge through extra first year depreciation
Montana State University economist Dr. Le Roy Luft explains how farmers can use the 20 percent additional first year depreciation on new or used machinery. The rule applies to assets with six year life, arms length purchases, and up to 10000 on single returns or 20000 on joint returns, with options to shift to straight line or faster methods to reduce tax liability.
