Col Roosevelt declares the new progressive party will be the main feature. Woman suffrage wins in Arizona and Kansas, likely in Michigan, but fails in Wisconsin. Turko Balkan war toll exceeds 150,000 killed or wounded as Constan tinople falls.
Hobson and Mitchell of Lewistown and P J Cole of Choteau plan four new townsites plus an addition to Choteau. The addition will sit east of Chateau on former Moore land. John Cole will survey and oversee winter work. Sites include east of Bynum, near Freezeout, and a location between power and the southeastern area. Work to plat and complete quickly.
Related returns from two precincts delayed the board of county commissioners as canvassers. As this paper goes to press the tally is far from finished. The official results will appear next week and no material change is expected from last week’s announcements.
A Choteau Commercial Club meeting is called for Monday evening November 25 1912 to consider incorporating the town of Choteau and discuss other matters. All citizens are urged to attend if interested, secretary H A Prescott announces.

Yourself and family are invited to attend the Farmers Institute at Chateau on Wednesdays November 20. Sessions begin at 1 30 P M and 7 30 P M. Topics include farm crops flax alfalfa potatoes tillage methods gardening tree planting live stock barring poultry and home making. County Coroner C H Connor concluded an inquest into the death of Mrs. Mary Miller wife of a lumber yard manager in Sweet Grass. She died Monday night Nov 4 after convulsions following a beer her husband brought home for her. The jury found the death accidental despite evidence suggesting possible poisoning. The stomach was sent to Choteau for chemical analysis by Dr Myrick acting for Dr Bateman.
Montana stock owners debate a brand for their stock with 21000 open after three sets of existing records. The state board notes 43000 brands, about 3000 transferred and 19000 re recorded leaving 21000 available for a $2 recording fee. Older brands fell out of use after the hard winter of 87 88 and owners vanished. Apply to D. W. Raymond at Helena for a brand.
A. C. Burbank county treasurer reports 77002.23 on hand as of Oct 31 1912 distributed across funds including State general sinking bounty stock inspector and detective fish and game warden fund state examiner general and contingent road bridge and poor funds district school and high school funds institute fund personal property taxes district court clerk deposits public administrator road awards unfinished business town funds and other accounts totaling seventy seven thousand two dollars and twenty three cents.
Marriage licenses have been issued during the past week as follows Chester E Atwood and Hazel Webb Walter Nov 7 L D Shilling and Rena Chachran Conrad Nov 9 V Frank Pettigrew and Marie B Cox Shelby Nov 12.
The next regular examination of applicants for teachers certificates will be held at the courthouse in Chateau Montana November 29 and 30 1912. The examination will also be held at Dupuyer and Conrad on the above dates. Nellie R Brown Superintendent of Schools.
The Chicago Milwaukee and Puget Sound Railways filed suit on October 31 seeking a right of way across Lots 1 through 14 in Block 3 of Chateau’s original townsite. The parcels lie along the east side of Main Street opposite Woodmen hall, with station purposes presumed.
President Taft issues a proclamation setting aside November 28 as Thanksgiving Day. He calls on all Americans to offer praise and thanks to God for blessings such as peace, prosperity, harvests, and the heritage of self government, and to pray for enduring mercies.
Spring Valley reports Spring Valley Items Miss Hubachek yielded the best wheat per acre and Mr Lacey led flax. Mrs Gooch digs a well and, with Mrs Edwards and Mr Roberts, visits Augusta. Gilbertson breaks 20 acres. Gooch at home Sunday. Edwards family to Falls. Betts returns from Lowry. Residents enjoy mountains and harvest weather. Vance harvests flax. Vaughn teacher Miss Belzer buys relinquishment at Spring Valley. Parnsworth buys Miss Vonsadine’s relinquishment and plans family return east. First valley school open two months with eleven pupils. A new barn to be built on school grounds for drivers.
J D Iwohy of Wohy Bros and John Hampshire treasurer are in Chateau finalizing sub leases for the Milwaukee line from Great Falls to Agawam. Hampshire notes the company’s U S and Canada work totals 37 000 000 and favors local labor. A small crew remains near town with plans to expand to use local help within fifteen miles of Chateau. Engineering chief C P Healy is on site preparing for work.
The Montana Poultry Association held its first meeting in Great Falls on October 30 as preparation for the mid winter show set for January 13 to 16, 1913. About forty members attended and secretary J J O Mahoney has received 10 guides from across Montana. A committee was formed to prepare the premium list ready for mailing December 1. Judge George D Holden of Owatonna Minnesota will oversee awards and cash prizes. Interested poultry enthusiasts should contact the secretary or Mrs J Barlow of the executive committee.
Dutton residents Mr. and Mrs. George Sollid were honored with a chafing dish at a surprise party. Bankstad brothers head to Wisconsin for the spring, while others visit Great Falls for shopping or work. Hunts and travel mark the week as Elmer Gordon adds to the Dutton House, and the Farmers Institute meets November 22 with church services at 10 20.
Trade reports note L. Norris as a leading possibility for Secretary of the Interior in President Wilson's administration. A government land sale is planned for December 2 in Billings, offering 40 000 to 50 000 acres on the Crow reservation ceded lands southeast of Billings.
Farmington Rev Homeland of Great Falls held church services last Sunday. Miss Mary Lindseth is in Great Falls. Andrew Austad arrived from Fairfield. Clarence Bleecker of Orange City New Jersey visits his brother H. H. Bleecker. Miss Ranvig Nassett returned to Great Falls. Born to John Brekke and wife last Saturday a daughter to Great Palla. L. Nassett made a business trip to Great Falls. Miss Swenson of Minneapolis visits Mrs. L. J. Otness. The Ladies Industrial met with Mrs. Steve Lindseth Monday afternoon.
