Chateau merchants plan Moonlight Madness sale this Saturday evening November 6. Stores close at usual time then reopen at 7 p m with clerks in night time attire offering a wide range of bargain priced merchandise downtown. Christmas not far away.
Grand opening of Choteau Food Market under Roger and Mrs. White on Saturday November 6 features Moonlight Madness promotions. The Whites who bought from the Shebles host sales, free ice cream for kids, refreshments, drawings for merchandise prizes including a turkey case of pop and flour, inviting the public to visit and meet the new staff.
A local Moonlight Madness event invites shoppers to visit multiple Choteau stores including Choteau Food Rexs Thriftway The Foothills Isaksons The Corral The Macan Tile Coast to Coast Choteau Drug Ellens Sears Choteau Ford Dirkes Taylor Motor for special low prices on clothing hardware yard goods and even pets. A new car display by local auto dealers will showcase 1977 models downtown during store rounds.
The Teton County Veteran's Bicentennial Committee announces a Veterans Day observance on Nov. 11 at 7 30 p.m. in the Chateau High School Auditorium commemorating war dead with a dedicatory address by Dave Shannon of the Montana American Legion executive staff. The program is open to the public and relatives of the honored dead. Refreshments will follow served by the V F W and American Legion Auxiliaries.
A passerby alerted authorities Monday night to a break in at the Dutton Service Center. Law enforcement surrounded the building but burglars escaped by a second window. fingerprints were taken and the case remains under investigation.
The Chateau High School music department presents its annual fall concert Friday November 5 at 7 30 p m in the high school auditorium. The evening features the grade school band high school band high school choir and a small singing ensemble with a varied program. Admission is 1 for adults and 50 cents for students with activity cards.
Ray O Ballantyne 68 longtime Choteau elevator operator died Oct 27 in a Great Falls hospital after a prolonged illness. Funeral at Choteau United Methodist Church with Masonic graveside rites and Banks Funeral Home handling arrangements. Survivors include Helen and two daughters plus several grandchildren and siblings.
Allan Clarke of Choteau Ford Sales announced the addition of a partner to the firm. Mike Bellows joined the staff last week and leads the new and used car sales departments. He was born in northwest Iowa and moved to Great Falls in 1963. He previously worked at Aetna Finance Co. and Bennett Pontiac before joining Bison Motor Co. Bellows and his wife Sharon plan to move to Choteau.
The annual Girl Scout fund drive will begin on November 8. The drive is led by chairman Mrs. Jim Ramaker with committee members Mrs. Jim Hamilton Mrs. Harry Luinstra and Mrs. Bernice Van Setten. Mothers will be assigned solicitation areas and all support is appreciated.
County records show over 80 percent turnout of 4160 registered electors. Carter Mondale won national race with Ford Dole losing. Melcher over Burger in Senate race. Marlenee defeated Towe for House seat. Woodahl failed to unseat Judge. Greely won Attorney General. Frank Murray unopposed for Secretary of State. Teton County split on some statewide contests.
The high temperature reached 79 on October 1 8 and 9 with a low of 17 on October 24. October had only two days with measurable rainfall .02 inches on October 5 and 6. The month was .389 inch below normal for the area.
All mothers of football team members are asked to attend a meeting in the high school study hall this Thursday November 4 at 7:30 p.m. Plans for this year's football banquet will be made at that time. Anyone unable to attend is asked to please call Mrs Bud White for information.
Leo H. Murphy resigns after 24 years as city attorney, with council ready to consider a replacement. The body weighs flood plain protest for Chateau, plans hiking system ideas, and hires under the Public Service Program.
Fourteen Montana lawmen finished a two day latent fingerprint course conducted by the Montana Law Enforcement Academy based at Montana State University Bozeman. Participants included George Anderson Howard Cunningham Leon Gollehon Raymond A Price Thomas Swartzel and Ward McKay plus Jerry Denend from Fairfield Police Department.
The Teton County Democratic Women's Club will meet at Mrs. Roy Goodell's home east of Dutton on Monday November 8 at 12 30 for a luncheon. Officers will be elected and any other business will be addressed.
Teton County precincts uniformly opposed the proposed change as the countywide vote defeated the alternate form by more than two to one. Chateau backed the current system by 3 to 1 with 67 percent turnout, totaling 799 residents for 603 to keep the present form and 183 for change. Dutton chose to keep the existing structure by 111 to 96 in a tight result.
Funeral services were held for Otto A. Thorbjornson 89 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. James Engh officiating. He died Saturday Oct 30 at Fort Harrison Veteran's Hospital near Helena and was buried with military honors in Chateau Cemetery. Survivors include two brothers two sons two daughters and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
