Veterans Invited to Re Enlist Under New War Dept Rules
Sgt James Davis of the Army recruiting team from Great Falls urges veterans to re enlist in their old grade under new rulings. The Chateau post office serves Fridays 10 am to 2 pm for sign up. Ex goldjets discharged after May 12 1945 may re enlist if civilian for over 90 days and sign before June 30. Bring discharge papers and forms 100. GI bill benefits require 18 months to three years service before Oct 6.

Irshal Davis To Direct School Band
Irshal Davis, former Teton County high school band instructor for six years, returns this fall to direct Chateau band. He has directed Browning high school band since last November and previously led Choteau and Poplar programs, with extensive Montana training and a Baker University degree. Davis plans to move to Choteau in late summer to revive the city band if interest grows.

Eva Mellon Dies At Great Falls After Brief Illness
Mrs. Russell I R Mellon 55 died Sunday night at Great Falls after a brief illness described as a common fatal ailment. Funeral services were held at Lady of Lourdes church in Great Falls this morning with entombment in the local mausoleum. Eva Mellon worked with her husband in the Chateau drug store for years and her son Leo died in a car accident over five years ago. She is survived by her husband, a Great Falls drug store owner, a foster daughter Mrs Don A Larson, two sisters in Minnesota, and a brother in Minneapolis. She formerly ran a beauty parlor in Chateau in the space now used by Malone Pharmacy.

Auxiliary Poppy Sale Sets Record at Chateau
On behalf of the American Legion auxiliary, Mrs. Carl Olson the poppy chairman thanks the public for support of the poppy sale held last Saturday in Choteau. The sale raised 229.15 dollars, the largest amount ever collected at a local poppy sale.

Former Montana governor John E. Erickson dies at 83 in Helena
John E. Erickson, 83, former county attorney of Teton county and three term governor of Montana, died Saturday in a Helena hospital. A Wisconsin native, he began law practice at Chateau in 1893, later served as district judge, and was U S senator after filling Walsh's term. He married Grace Vance in 1898 and survived by widow, three children and a grandson. burial planned in Kalispell with Knights Templar directing.

Frank Daggett Dies in California at 50
Frank Daggett a former Choteau resident living in San Gabriel California died at his home on a Saturday. He operated a Texaco station in Choteau ten years ago and was a painter by trade. A Kokomo Indiana native he married Helen Sturgeon in 1919 and had a son Frank E Daggett Jr. His widow Ann Finlayson of Los Angeles survives with the son. He served in the Marine Corps in World War I and was past master of the Temple City California Masonic Lodge.

Full production of consumer goods appeared assured last evening with the announcement that the soft coal strike has ended. No other strikes which will hinder the manufacture of automobiles, farm machinery and other vital goods were in the offing, news reports said last night.

Floyd Swenson of Bynum leads the honor roll with 92.5 to 94.9 average. Winnifred McDermott of Fairfield posts 90 to 92.5. William Reiquam and Nancy Stenson of Chateau rate 87.5 to 89.9.
