Choteau High School Seniors Receive Diplomas Monday Night

Choteau High School held baccalaureate services Sunday and graduation Monday for the class of 1976. Reverend James Engh delivered the sermon urging graduates to shape America’s future and face adulthood with faith, supported by performances from participants including Fred Thompson singing.

Chateau Elementary graduation set for Tuesday evening

Forty two eighth graders will graduate from Chateau Elementary on Tuesday June 1. Ceremonies begin at 8 p m in the high school auditorium with Rev James Gannon delivering invocation and benediction and diplomas presented by Ray Anderson vice chairman of the Chateau School Board.

Country Club Potluck and Women’s Club Elections

The Chateau Country Club hosts a Thursday evening potluck dinner. Afterward the women’s club will elect officers and plan summer activities. A Fun Day is set for Sunday May 30 at 1 p.m. with a string tournament and bring-your-own steak fry. the committee provides trimmings.

CHS Girls Win Division and Choteau Boys Place Fourth

The Choteau girls edged Conrad 41 40 to win the divisional title at Conrad as 17 athletes qualified for the state meet in Missoula. Laura Stott and Sally Evensen starred in hurdles and high jump while Connie Kimmel led relay wins, and Choteau’s boys finished tied for fourth amid injuries and strong opposition.

The Choteau Public Library will open summer hours starting this Friday. The schedule lists daily openings with afternoon and evening slots through the season, as stated by librarian Thelma Nauck.

Memorial Day Services Set For Monday

Memorial Day services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in Choteau Cemetery with American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars support. Flags will be placed on graves in Choteau Farmington and Bynum cemeteries with poppy decorations by auxiliaries. Reverend James Enghe will give the address, and Teton veterans will be honored as the nation marks its 200th anniversary.

Choteau Commission Plans Public Hearing On Tentative Report

The Choteau Local Government Study Commission announces a tentative report with findings and recommendations. Copies will be at the city office June 1 and later mailed to households. a public hearing will be held after 30 days, with final report due by August 1 and an election on the proposed form of government set for November 2, 1976.

Hand Grenade Destroyed By Bomb Squad In Chateau

A World War II era hand grenade found by Donald Dormody in a Cowgill Addition vacant lot near Nesbit house was disposed of by a National Guard bomb squad from Helena. The grenade, believed Japanese make, was detonated at the city landfill with no fragments remaining. Sheriff Pete Howard noted the device could have exploded if run through a roto-tiller.

Parades Set For July 4 Celebration

Plans advance for the July 3 and 4 parades in Chateau. A special children’s parade Saturday afternoon July 3 starts at Skyline Lodge and ends in the city park with a pot luck dinner. The Bicentennial parade offers over 600 in prize money and invites all Teton County youths up to age 14 to participate.
