Honors Abound At Chateau High Class Night Program

Chateau High School celebrated its annual Class Night with athletic and academic honors. Recipients included Don Knutson for football most tackles and Conrad Gunderson as most valuable player, along with numerous lettermen and numerals across classes.

Graduation set for 46 eighth graders at Chateau Elementary

Graduation exercises for 46 members of the Chateau Elementary School eighth grade will be held Thursday June 3 in the high school auditorium. Rev. Allen Adams will give the invocation and benediction while several students speak. Paul Alzheimer vice chairman of the School Board will present diplomas.

Memorial Day Services Set For Chateau Cemetery

Memorial Day services are planned for 10 45 a m on Monday May 31 at Chateau Cemetery Rev James P Gannon of St Josephs Catholic Church will give the memorial address Everett Sassa will play Assembly and the high school band will perform the Star Spangled Banner Jack Rogers VFW chaplain will offer the memorial prayer and American Legion Commander Jack Reiding will give the introduction John Chane will read a short piece prior to Father Gannons address George H Higgins Legion sergeant at arms will place the wreath Gordon Monkman Legion service officer will read veterans deaths from the past year Mrs Doris Higgins and Mrs Marie Stenson will place memorial poppies A firing squad under Grant Curtis will fire the salute and bugler Sassa will play Taps If weather is bad the exercises move to the high school auditorium

Stores to Close for Memorial Day in Choteau

Choteau stores will be closed next Monday in observance of Memorial Day. Memorial services will be held at the Choteau Cemetery on Monday at 10 45 a m.

Former Resident Joe Mozer Jr Dies at Great Falls

Julius Mozer aged 55 a building engineer for Great Falls National Bank for 18 years died in a Great Falls hospital after a two month illness. Funeral services were held in Great Falls. He was born September 28 1915 in Choteau and moved to Great Falls in 1943. He married Mildred Fetting in 1940 in Conrad and had a daughter Judith Ben go and two sons Mark and Clark. He leaves a large family including six brothers and three sisters.

Two Vehicle Accidents Reported Near Choteau Monday Evening

Two accidents occurred near Choteau Monday night with no serious injuries. Gordon Mills avoided injury when his 1966 Mercury was broadside by Kenneth Brown’s 1962 Thunderbird on the Chateau Dutton Highway. A 1956 Ford driven by Robert Gillin left U.S. 89 near the Elmer Knaff residence, struck a mailbox, and ended in a borrow pit. Gillin was treated and cited for reckless driving and lack of license.

Attorney General Woodahl to Address Choteau Graduates

Montana Attorney General Robert L. Woodahl will deliver the commencement address to Choteau High School graduates on May 31 in the school gym. The program includes invocations, salutatory and valedictory by CHS students, diplomas, and a band procession, with Woodahl speaking at the close.

Choteau High selects Rathman and Dhane as top graduates

Susan Rathman daughter of Mr and Mrs Stan Rathman and John M Dhane son of Mrs Ann Dhane head the Choteau High School class of 1971 valedictorian and salutatorian honors. Rathman plans study at Stanford with a potential foreign exchange term and ROTC scholar Chane Dhane will study pre medicine at Gonzaga University while holding ROTC and leadership awards.

Four PH&T Winners Advance to Falls For District Contest

Nearly 30 youngsters competed in the second annual Pitch Hit and Throw at the Chateau ball park. Plaques were awarded to first and second in four age groups 9 through 12 led by Jim Bosshardt and Rocky Dailey in 9, Kirk Dunckel and Skipper Lines in 10, Mike Arensmeyer and Vernon Tesch in 11, and Keith Van Setten and John Buck in 12. First place winners advance to district competition. sponsors Glen Stoudt and Ben Hoge thanked helpers and praised turnout.

Little Leaguers Open 1971 Season

The 1971 Little League season started with Blues vs Greens in the opener. Greens face Reds at 6 30 p.m. Friday and Reds meet Blues on Tuesday June 1. Each team plays the others six times, culminating in a late July tournament.

Chamber urges floats for Choteau July 4 parade

The Chamber of Commerce and American Legion Post in Choteau co sponsor the annual July 4 parade urging clubs to enter floats. Nearly 300 dollars in prize money will be awarded for best floats. President Chester Abbott asks organizations to participate as the parade grows after last year’s reduced entries.

Fireworks Fund Donor List Begins to Grow

Donations for the July 4 display in Chateau are increasing but still fall short of the $500 goal. Leo Pierre, fundraiser chair, notes the drive starts slow and gains pace near the holiday while last year’s effort also missed the target. Donors for the week include KOA Kampgrounds and multiple local residents. funds are collected at Gambles Store and other local outlets.

Memorial Poppy Sale Set for Saturday in Choteau

American Legion Auxiliary members will sell Memorial poppies on Choteau streets all day Saturday May 29. Proceeds benefit disabled American veterans who make the poppies.

Choteau KOA Kampgrounds Opens Sunday for Third Year

The Choteau KOA Kampground owned by Bert and Betty Corey opens for its third year on Sunday May 30. Last season drew 700 visitors and the camp hosts guests from across the United States and many foreign countries. A 24 hour public laundromat and a July 4 caravan from Colorado are noted plans as the Coreys thank locals for support and KOA promotes Choteau in national directories.
