Stevens Links Blackfeet Peace to Gros Ventres Accord
In 1853 Isaac I. Stevens sought a peaceful path between Blackfeet and Gros Ventres after a Blackfeet war party killed a Gros Ventre and a horse theft. At Fort Benton he learned of a feud with the Gros Ventres over a marriage and murder, and he convened a council on the Milk River offering settlement in exchange for reparation to end hostilities and aid exploration.

Fallon Cowboy Makes Fast Ride
Fallon rancher Bill Holzworth, 30, rode three horses in relays over a 230 mile route from Glendive to Billings in 23 hours to test pony express speeds. He rode each horse 30 miles, used nine rubber shoe sets, and traveled with a supporting truck driven by Art Moe. He plans a San Francisco trip via Spokane, hoping better shoes will shave time, though he faced glare and hard highway conditions at night.
