Spelling Contest And School Exhibit At Choteau
An eighth grade program from Miss Fletcher’s Choteau school delighted the audience with songs. A spelling contest followed with winners listed by grade and town, concluding with a large out of town contestant field. Art and sewing displays were excellent and plans include a larger next year with cash prizes for winners.

The Junior Sophomore prom Tuesday night with artificial chrysanthemums and butterflies delighted attendees. Holland's Orchestra provided music, midnight refreshments served, and Home Sweet Home played after 1 am. Baccalaureate at Episcopal church drew seniors faculty and many outsiders. Plays Wednesday night praised, domestic science exhibition followed, and bread making shown. Ciphering and spelling contests held. Marion Pridham won the spelling contest. Exams are over and report cards arrive Friday morning. This is the last high school notes of the year.

Pioneer Woman Mrs James Manix Dies After Long Illness
Mrs James Manix a long time resident of northern Montana died May 16 at age 73 after weeks of illness. Her life spanned 87 years in the region with noted open handed hospitality. Her funeral at Dupuyer Catholic church followed by interment beside her husband highlighted a large turnout.

James McLain Dies at 75 After Long Wisconsin-Minnesota Span
James McLain died at home in the Hobson addition on Monday May 21 at age 75 years 12 days. Born May 9 1842 near Windham New York he lived in several towns before settling with wife Sophia Mattice in Grey Eagle Minnesota and later Chateau near their son W R McLain. He is survived by his wife a son and a daughter with funeral services planned at the Methodist church and interment at Grey Eagle Minnesota.
