The American Legion Auxiliary held its May meeting at Mrs. Clara Baker's home with 29 members present. Officers elected by acclaimation include President Mrs Paul Kropp and Vice Presidents Mrs Morgan and Mrs Daley, plus Secretary Treasurer Mrs Beck, Historian Mrs Passmore, Chaplain Mrs Vick, and Sergeant at Arms Mrs Baker. Eight new members were initiated and installation is planned for June.
Forty nine high school musicians under Irshal Davis travel from Cha teau to Havre for a weekend music festival. They perform at 2 p m Saturday at the Buttrey store corner with Hotel Havre hosting. Chaperone Mrs Treeman Curtis and many parents sponsor the trip.
Marilyn Ledgerwood, former Choteau resident and granddaughter of Mrs. Cora Cohoe, earned top grades at Olympia High School in Washington. She completed four years with a 97.5 average, the highest among all Olympia graduates, though ineligible for valedictorian due to one year at Cathlamet High School.
The Teton County Home Demonstration council will hold a special all-law meeting here on Friday, May 19, at the courthouse.
About twenty acts listed for the fourth annual Lions Club Amateur Night at the high school auditorium tonight. R E Nelson reports two extra numbers will appear. admission is 35 cents adults 15 cents children. A billings district convention trip prize awaits the top number in June program.
At Parkway last Monday 17 of 40 candidates were chosen for the Choteau baseball team for this season. Manager A J Nutte says practices have occurred for a month and selections reflect performance. A practice with CCC Augusta is planned, with Conrad and Memorial Day games discussed. Selected players include pitchers Myron LeDesky Hatfield Rosengren Al Flensley catcher Pat Campbell infielders Jack Core Don Dahlin Joe Schmitz Howard Anderson Lowell Scott Bill Murray Eddie Hagar and outfielders Joe Anderson Dave Rice Cecil Snyder Ralph Bleecker Junior Anderson.
Poppy Day will be observed across the United States on Saturday May 27 with the wearing of memorial poppies to honor World War dead. Mrs Rolland Ferris president of the Chateau unit of the American Legion Auxiliary announced the event and noted the poppies are made by disabled World War veterans.
A total of 16000 native fingerling trout have been planted in the north and south forks of the Teton by Phil Bottler of the Great Falls hatchery with help from the Teton County Sportsmen's Association. Fish are four to five inches, with future plantings planned in Spring Creek, lower Teton, Pishkun Reservoir, Sun River and river headwaters. Local anglers report growing trout numbers and anticipate the May 21 fishing season opening.
The Women’s Field Army in District 7 reports April campaign results for Glazier Toole Pondera and Teton counties. Teton listings show many groups contributing including Queen Rebekah, Farmington clubs, St Luke’s Auxiliary, American Legion, Masonic groups, 4‑H clubs, Odd Fellows, and community bodies. Two communities remain to report. total statewide result expected to be gratifying.
Glacier National Park to open fishing on June 1 with special rules. Two Medicine Red Eagle Swiftcurrent and Cainas drainages start June 10. Belly River Waterton drainages begin July 1. Limits vary by area and total weight. salmon eggs and fish spawn banned. multi spinner baits prohibited.
The Chateau Lions Club marked its twelfth anniversary with a program at the Masonic hall attracting over 100 Lions and guests from Browning Cascade and Great Falls. Highlights included the Watson sisters singing Pennies From Heaven, a history of the club by R. E. Nelson, Billy Madison's accord ion solo, and Mayor Julius Wuerthner of Great Falls delivering the main address on Americanism.
Two well attended sessions explained proper wiring methods for the Pendroy Farmington extension of the Sun River electrification project. About 150 attended Pendroy and about 75 at Farmington as representatives demonstrated switches and electrical materials and planned more July demonstrations after line completion.
Coach John Dunckel leads a four team league in Chateau with a Thursday afternoon opener between Freshmen Juniors and Sophomores Seniors. Rexall Drug and Chateau Food join as two town clubs. A Friday 6:30 p.m. night game at the high school field follows as rivalry builds through the season.
The Teton County Recreational Council schedules a meeting this Saturday May 13 at the high school at 8 pm local time. The agenda includes community recreation planning and youth program updates.
