The Choteau High School athletic banquet at the Lions Club hall honored and recognized honor roll students and athletic letters. Principal Dr. A A McAuley gave the opening address with Bill Hodges delivering a second talk. Ed Schiller presented honor students and lettermen while Carol Howard and Jerry Asay gave responses. Reverend A Bernard Grandal offered the invocation and Ann Chalmers and Robbie Ann Crocker performed solos. Lee Drummond led the pledge as the Chateau Boosters Club sponsored the event.

Obituary of Joseph Ober Dies After Long Illness
Funeral services for Joseph Ober of Fairfield were held at St. John's Church after a five month illness. Born January 7, 1886 in Wassserburg Germany, he farmed near Power then lived in Germany again to marry Theresa before returning to Power in 1923. He is survived by his widow, six children, a sister and brother, seven grandchildren, and other relatives.

Choteau Voters Face Referendum on New Fire Truck Purchase
The Choteau city council voted to place the $17,480 Howe fire truck package on a referendum to be considered by voters in the June 5 primary. Becker Enters Race for Teton County Sheriff
Albert Jay Becker, 56, of Fairfield, filed for Teton County sheriff on the Democratic ticket. Timothy Cook 78, long-time Teton County resident and pioneer, died at the Teton Rest Home on May 3. Funeral services were held at Banks Chapel with Rev. A Bernard Gravdal officiating. Born May 23, 1883, in Nordaway County Missouri, he lived in Canada before returning to Bynum area then west of Chateau. Survived by son Eldon Cook of Chateau, daughter Nelda Palminiere of Los Angeles, and brothers Tom in Seattle and Homer in Missoula, plus six grandchildren. Burial followed in Choteau cemetery.

Choteau Police Chief Maurice Black warned parents that any person operating a motor scooter motor bike or motorcycle must have a valid driver's license. He said rising vehicle use requires strict enforcement and that arrests of minors without licenses could lead to fines in juvenile court. Vehicles also require state license plates.

Negligence Cited in Fatal Missile Site Accident
A coroner's jury ruled James Ellsworth Schubring died accidentally due to negligence by Fuller-Webb and F-2 missile site officials five miles south of Chateau.
