Scout Circus and Hospital Auction Set for May 15 at Chateau

A Busy May 15 schedule features a scout parade and circus at the football field, a high school gym dinner, two dances, and a hospital benefit auction drive. Local, state and Blackfoot participants attend the World Scout Jamboree coverage noted from Paris. Items for auction include farm implements canned goods hogs and farm stock with pickup at various homes before sale and donations urged at Chateau Drug Co.

District 4 spring meet hosted by IOOF and Rebekah lodges

The Rebekah and Odd Fellow lodges of Chateau host the District 4 spring meeting this Saturday May 8. About 250 visitors from Cut Bank Walier Fort Benton Neihart Sand Coulee Belt and Great Falls are expected. Morning registration begins 9 30 am with a joint meeting and program. Luncheon at noon. Afternoon sessions 1 30 with Odd Fellow and Rebekah meetings. Banquet 5 30 6 30 in Lutheran church parlors. Evening sessions 7 30. Several district officers will attend.

Val Kirk Services Held at Billings for Cattle Co. Former Owner

Funeral services were held in Billings for Val Kirk 61 a former owner of the Peters Hamilton Cattle Co ranch near Chateau who died at his Frannie Wyoming home after a long illness Kirk had oil interests around Finnie and came to Choteau in 193 and bought Coffey brothers farm northwest of Choteau In 1947 he sold his interest with Clark to Eilers and Hamilton Surviving are his wife Pearl and a son Carroll a drilling contractor.

Weekly Dances At Choteau Park Pavilion

Hutterite Colony Buys Miller Ranch in Teton County

The Miller ranch of about 11 000 acres north west of Chateau is sold to a Hutterite colony to be named O K or Miller Colony. Included are 500 acres irrigated and 10 500 grazing. Total area under Hutterite purchases in the county nears 50 000 acres with plans for adjoining Clifford Trexler and Zgoda ranches and more tracts pending.

First Oil Ever Struck in County Believed Drilled

A 15 barrel wildcat well on the Roy Morris farm near Pendroy in Sec 22 27N 4W shows gas and light oil after drilling. If acidizing confirms production, it may be Teton county's first oil discovery. the Morris well lies near the Pendera field and could extend oil pockets toward Pendroy. Morton well between Valier and Dupuyer is still testing with no new results.

Saddle Club Gives Memorial Hospital $432 From Dance

The Teton Saddle Club donated proceeds from a May Day dance at the Legion pavilion and from an Elk prize ticket sale to Memorial Hospital. Auction sales and lunch service raised 327 for the hospital, 100 from the dance, and 55 from ticket sales.

The American Legion auxiliary held its regular meeting in the auxiliary hall Monday night. Kathryn Munson read her winning essay. Chamber Plans Community Chest Drive and Civic Actions

City chamber discusses a single annual community chest to fund cancer control tuberculosis scouts and other groups for Choteau residents. It plans a committee from all local organizations to draft details and decides Memorial Day Fourth of July and other holidays store closings.
