Border Patrol Men Nab Whiskey Peddler in Chateau Chase

Border patrol officers from Browning and Cut Bank intercepted a truck loaded with five 10 gallon kegs after spotting Henry M. Johnson alias Blomberg, a reputed whiskey peddler from Helena, during lunch at the Beaupre cafe. The pursuit ended when the truck was halted on Main Avenue.

Students Hear Doctor Davis of State Normal College

Dr. S. B. Davis, president of State Normal College Dillon, visited Chateau for a special assembly. He praised Teton county high for sending eight students to Dillon with three on the honor roll, naming Helen Standish, Helen Binford and Leslie Chalmers, noting 37.5 percent achievers. He urged self understanding while cautioning against excessive introspection.

Seizure in Montana: Ferris Cargo and Dodge Truck Confiscated

States Commissioner Chas H Ferris and a 50 gallon mooshine cargo were seized along with a Dodge truck. Officer Danenns swore to a complaint charging Johnson with illegal transport. Johnson posted a $300 bond with sureties Joe Mozer and Margaret Mozer and awaited federal court in Great Falls.

Simms Wits First in Track Meet Saturday at State College

Kenneth Harmon and Ted Bingham led Teton High in the Future Farmers of America events at Bozeman during High School week April 26 30. Harmon won oration honors and Bingham placed high in farm mechanics while Marybelle Peterson and Willard Paulus earned recognitions.

Engineer Seeks Oil Route For Choteau Street

City officials receive a letter from R H Willcomb division engineer of the State Highway Commission outlining plans to oil Main avenue in Choteau connecting to highways on both ends with a 20 foot standard width. The city would pay for additional 70 foot wide street oiling beyond the strip. Work to start about the 15th at Birch Creek and proceed south after Helena approval.

Coroner Charles W. Roberts Seeks Re Election

Charles W. Roberts incumbent coroner files for re election on the Republican ticket. He pledges to perform duties as he has for the past two years after coming to Teton County in 1929 and opening Roberts Funeral Home. He has mortuary experience in Great Falls and Billings.

Scholastic Meet Awards 123 Ribbons in County

The annual scholastic tests held Saturday at Chateau awarded 123 ribbons for scholarship in grades four through eight across Teton County. First places and ties advance to Helena for state contest, with medals for the flag contest. Guy Gulbrandson Pendroy won the flag medal with 96 points. Choteau excluded from the contest except in flag standings. Rural division winners listed include Ray McKee and Thelma Price among others.
