New Store Opens In Choteau With Three Day Open House
V and J Appliance and Tire Co owned by LaVerne Murr and Jim Wedum of Choteau announces a three day open house Friday May 4 through Sunday May 6 at 400 South Main. The store features RCA Victor and RCA Whirlpool lines, U S Royal tires, on the farm tire repairs, and special drawings with coffee and donuts. Wedum plans to devote full time to the new business after selling his service station.

Six Teton Youths Win Scholarships From Montana Colleges
Six Teton county youths were awarded college scholarships based on High School Week results and other Montana programs. Charles Corey and Cathy Corey of Choteau won $300 and $195 respectively for class B standings, while Steve LaRance of Choteau earned a $250 engineering scholarship. Choteau High School Superintendent Ed Schiller praised the results as a local success with three of five competitors winning scholarships totaling $745. Separate UM Haynes Foundation awards will fund 55 Montana seniors with 195 to 500 dollar scholarships for continued study at the University of Montana Missoula based on academics and leadership.

Bozeman Rodeo Crown Goes to Ray Yeager
Ray Yeager of Montana State University, a saddle bronc rider from near Chateau, won the Bill Linderman Memorial and the Cremer-Hart Memorial trophies at the 20th annual Bozeman intercollegiate rodeo. He rode Kesler Rodeo Company's Flea Bite, posted a 74, and overcame a broken left wrist to claim top honors. Yeager, 22, plans Calgary training and aims for the Rodeo Cowboy Association circuit. He and wife Phyllis Rice live at 1405 Fox Street, Bozeman.

Three Accidents Reported Near Choteau This Month
Montana Highway Patrol logged three accidents in the Choteau area over two weeks. A horse hit a late model Plymouth near the veterinary clinic on April 22, causing door damage. no bones broken but the horse was bruised. A collision near the Stillman ranch involved a Stillman car and James Baker’s vehicle with minor damage and no injuries. The third incident on the Pishkun Reservoir road involved Airman Joseph Stoetzel’s AF truck rolling onto its side after striking a bridge railing. no injuries and investigation ongoing.

Public Auction At Villager For Davison Estate
A public auction will be held Saturday May 20 in Chateau to sell property formerly owned by Mr and Mrs John Davison at the Villager. Items include drug and hardware goods a 1959 Ford pickup and a 1963 Ford Fairlane with all property sold for at least 75 percent of appraised value unless court approves lower. Four Teton ASCS Employees Attend Kalispell Workshop
Four Teton county ASCS employees from Chateau attended a two day Kalispell workshop on current activities and techniques to improve operations and service of ASC offices. Attendees included Mrs Romey McCollum manager Mrs Leo Pierre Mrs Leonard Ober and Nels Whipple. The group reviewed procedures for determining farmer and rancher compliance with current ASC programs. Wheat and feed grain participants will certify crop acreages and other program requirements with July 15 as the final certification date. County offices will spot check a small number of reporting farms to ensure understanding of requirements and compliance.

Funeral Rites Held Monday For Erickson
Funeral services were held Monday for Henry N. Erickson 45 who died Wednesday April 24 at his ranch south of Bynum. Interment followed at Bynum Cemetery with pallbearers named. Erickson a WWII Air Force veteran and former prisoner of war was a farmer and Teton County High School valedictorian who never married. Surviving sister Art Gebhart and three nephews live in Power Choteau and Seattle. Relatives came from Great Falls Headquarters Idaho and Norway.
