Marian Butchart daughter of Mr and Mrs W B Butchart of this city won first in the high school declamatory contest last Saturday and will represent Teton county at the state meet in Missoula during the interscholastic week May 7 8 and 9 Her subject was Masters Violin Harriett Larson took second and Phyllis Green third Twenty one contestants entered with eight in the finals Judges were E H Myrick Miss Medley and Mrs Culbertson Also reported are track meet results with multiple winners in girls and boys events including Grace Anderson Jim Looney Earl Wiggins William Tedrow and others plus details of various relay and field events and cross country results.

Zeigler Expands Farm With 160 Acres In Teton County
G B Zeigler, noted dry land farmer from the Gap country, visited Chateau Saturday and disclosed he completed a purchase of 160 acres adjoining his farm. The land, described as S% S%, Sec. 31, Twp. 24, R. 3 W., was bought from Yelte Bakker. He says the addition shows his faith in Teton County’s revival and rise among western counties.

Ex-Governor Edwin L Norris Dies at 58 in Great Falls
Former Montana Governor and acting governor Edwin L Norris died at his Great Falls home after a cerebral hemorrhage. He was 58, born in Kentucky, served as state senator and senate president, then lieutenant governor and acting governor before moving to Great Falls to practice law. Funeral services were held at the Masonic temple with burial in Kentucky.

Man Shot in Hand During Horse Dispute Near Twin Lakes
E J Burfening, living 30 miles northwest of Chateau, was shot in the hand with a 32 caliber revolver during a dispute over horses with Burke. Witness Pete Wallace testified the gun discharged when snagged on a coat button. Burke claims accidental discharge as Burfening advanced to take the weapon. Burke was jailed on a first degree charge, later dismissed due to insufficient evidence.
