Montana Tops Nation in Best Trout Streams List
A national outdoor magazine ranks Montana first with 12 of the 100 top trout streams, followed by Washington with 10 and California with nine. The Madison River is named the nation’s No. 1 trout river, with streams like the Bitterroot and Jefferson also highlighted. W. J. Everin of the Montana Fish and Game Department notes habitat loss and damming threaten high quality streams, while other states’ protections help their fisheries.

Seed grain safety and handling precautions urged by county official
Lyall Schaefer, chairman of the County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committee, warns farmers to follow strict safety measures when treating seed grain for spring planting in Montana. Read labels, use protective gear, store treated seed away from food grain, burn disposable containers, and ensure clean equipment. He notes treated grain can affect market value and emphasizes avoiding inhalation and skin exposure. The message also recalls Commodore Perry's 1854 Yokosuka visit while stressing proper seed handling.
