Chateau Legion Post and Auxiliary celebrate the 50th anniversary of the American Legion with a March 15 birthday observance at the Legion hall. Dinner at 7pm, then a program of entertainment and history reading, followed by a dance. Rex Peterson to MC. Sassa is commander, Southard leads Auxiliary, Davidson chairs. The event honors the 1919 founding in Paris and notes Montana attendees. A March 22 stag party and initiation follow.

Great Falls Man Receives Five-Year Suspended Sentence
Alvis Harvey Sharp, 33, of Great Falls pled guilty to a crime against nature near Fairfield. A District Court judge, R. D McPhillips, gave Sharp a five year suspended sentence and placed him under State Parole Board supervision. Charles Joslyn of Chateau prosecuted.

Reidings Lose Garage in Fire at Jack Reiding Farm
A fire at the Jack Reiding farm northeast of Chateau destroyed a one stall garage workshop. Sheriff Beck er and Deputy Asay arrived with the county fire truck. fighting saved nearby structures as the shed was past saving. Reiding said welding had been underway and two saddles were saved while tools and the welder were lost. A bunkhouse at Ira Perkins ranch near Bynum also burned with no other buildings at risk.

City Dog License Deadline Set By Police Chief
City dog owners must license all dogs by April 30. fees are 2 dollars for male and spayed dogs and 15 dollars for females. Unlicensed dogs will be impounded and disposed of after April 30 by the Chateau Police Department. Mr and Mrs C A Peterson returned from Downey California after six weeks visiting their daughter.

Indoor Arena Plans Considered for Chateau
About 25 people gathered last Thursday to view plans for an 80 by 300 foot all steel indoor arena with a dirt floor and portable seating. Proposed for community use including youth rodeos cattle shows and roping events. The arena would be owned by a non profit with yearly family memberships likely under 35 dollars. A follow up meeting is set for Friday March 21 at 8 p m in the Chateau courthouse.
