He noted low per capita donations in Montana and highlighted a $2,633 county goal for Teton, praise for blood program benefits, and the absence of charge for the blood itself.

Teton County Heart Drive Is Successful

The 14th annual Heart Fund Drive in February raised a total of 878.53 in Chateau with Rainbow Girls aiding door to door in Choteau and Bridge for Heart raising 319. Other communities report varied sums as Mrs. C. W. Boussard notes the campaign’s long run with Montana Heart Association and praises local generosity.

Farm Bureau Dinner Set for Next Sunday in Cha teau

The annual Farm Bureau Fun Feed Pancake Dinner will be held Sunday March 14 at 1 pm in Moose Hall Cha teau. An out of town speaker will discuss the Farm Bureau history and its impact on farmers and ranchers of the state. Members urged to attend and guests welcome.

Fairfield Car Totals In One Vehicle Crash

A 1967 Chevrolet totaled in a one car wreck on a county road four miles west of Fairfield at 9 15 p m Saturday March 6. Driver Ken Larson of Fairfield lost control in gravel and rolled once after veering off the road. Passenger Dave DeZort of Fairfield escaped injury.

Legion Birthday Party Set by American Legion

Hans Gaarder Services Held on Thursday

Hans Gaarder 78, a long time Fairfield area farmer and rancher, died March 4 in Teton Memorial Hospital. Born in Reinsvoll Norway in 1892, he immigrated to the U.S. in 1912, lived in Great Falls, moved to Fairfield in 1922, and retired in 1958. He was active in St Paul Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, and the Montana Polled Hereford Association. He is survived by his widow Alma, two sons Harold and Rev Donald, daughter Donna, ten grandchildren, three brothers and a sister in Norway. Funeral was held March 6 at St Paul Lutheran with interment at St Paul Cemetery.

Feed Lot Meeting Planned by North Montana Feeders

A public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday March 17 at 7 30 p m in the Choteau High School auditorium to discuss the proposed North Montana Feeders feedlot north of town. Officials from Montana State University Cooperative Extension Service and North Montana Feeders directors will explain opportunities and answer questions. Directors say land for 4000 to 10000 cattle is secured and local barley and calves provide strong supply. the project aims to boost the area economy with MSU and extension support.

Snow Depths Above Average on Sun River and Teton Courses

U S Forest Service foreman Ray Mills and team report above average snow depths and higher water content in Sun River and Teton snow courses this year. Readings at Cabin Creek Wrong Creek and Goat Mountain exceed year averages with several sites showing 20 percent plus increases in water content and higher snow totals than the recent three year data for Teton.

Choteau Chamber Plans Easter Egg Hunt and Dollar Day

The Choteau Chamber of Commerce will host two April events led by president Chet Abbott. An Easter Egg Hunt on April 10 on the courthouse lawn will divide children into four age groups with wrapped candy eggs allowed. Montana Fish and Game biologists study Priest Lake fish populations near Chateau. Rainbow trout were planted and if survival and growth meet expectations, fishing could begin in 1972. Notices will precede opening and media will be contacted. for now the lake remains closed to fishing.

Filing Deadline Named For School Board Candidates

March 13 is the filing deadline for candidates to the school board. Petitions must be filed with School Clerk William F. Olsen or Superintendent Muriel S. Host Family Sought for Choteau AFS Year

Civic Social Club to Sponsor Food Sale for Local Hospital

The Civic Social Club of Chateau will sponsor a community food sale at the Masonic Hall on Friday March 19 at 10 a.m. Proceeds aid the Teton Memorial Hospital improvement fund. Donations of food and cash are welcomed, with coffee pie cake and cookies served during the sale. The hall opens March 18 for donations from 2 to 5.
