State Board of Health vital statistics estimate Montana population at 675000 in 1956 up 142 percent since 1950. Teton county rises to 7500, Yellowstone gains 17925, Cascade 16273, Silver Bow 11178. 39 counties show gains, 17 lose population. Mineral county records the largest percentage gain while Lake and Custer counties show declines.

Choteau Bulldogs Defeat Cut Bank in Northern Class B Final

The Choteau Bulldogs upset the favored Cut Bank Wolves 70 58 to win the Northern Class B title. Tony Jaconetty led with 24 points, while Mike Allen scored 25 for Cut Bank. The Wolves later lost to Conrad 66 63 in the consolation finale.

Augusta Man Produces West Yellowstone Rodeo Season

State Tournament Tickets Go On Sale This Week

Reserved seat orders for the State Class B basketball tournament will be taken until noon Friday at the high school office. Chateau gets 100 tickets. Money must accompany orders. Priority goes to holders of both regular season and divisional tournament tickets. Tickets available Tuesday March 12 for priority buyers and Wednesday March 13 for all others.

Augusta Girl Named All Star at CWC Denver

Miss Jo Ann Nett of Augusta Montana was selected for the Colorado Woman’s College all star basketball squad in Denver. Freshmen and senior teams played off to choose the all stars from all teams, and the group now prepares for a game with Loretto Heights College. Chris Johnson returned from Fort Harrison hospital in Helena after hernia surgery.

Parent-Teacher Conferences Set for March at Chateau Grade School

Principal Robert Gormley announced two rounds of conferences for kindergarten through third grade during the weeks of March 11 to March 22. A slip will notify parents of appointment times, and those grades will be dismissed at 3 p.m. during conference weeks.

Ruth Clark's Sister Dies In California

Mrs. Harry Kenyon of Cottonwood California dies after a year long illness. Born in Clermont Iowa she moved with parents to Great Falls in 1900 and attended Electric City school. Survived by husband son Jack Kenyon and siblings Ruth Clark Margaret Innes and T P Corcoran Hiram and John Kenyon.

Heart Fund Drive Receives Strong February Support

The Heart Fund Drive led by Mrs. Dorothy Boussard shows strong February donations, with many gifts in memory of heart disease victims. A large memorial fund was turned over to the Montana Heart Association for John Schabel of Dutton, and Chateau contributions totaled over 300 dollars from a letter appeal reaching about one tenth of residents. The committee thanks all contributors for the generous results.

Snow Measurements Show Lower Depths on Teton and Benchmark

Snow measurements taken Feb 26 to 28 by the SCS and Forest Service on the Teton and Benchmark courses show depths and moisture content about a third lower than last year and below the eight year average. Final readings due end of March and will be published by several snow courses later.

C Tournament Opens At The Chateau High Gym

The Northern Class C basketball tournament begins this afternoon at the Chateau high school gym. District 9 teams St. Leo's Lewistown Grass Range face Belt Power Geraldine Joplin Chester and Stanford in two early doubleheaders with losers playing tomorrow and winners advancing to Saturday for the divisional crown. Two teams move on to the state tournament in Helena in two weeks.

J. Burch and Nick Whinker, both Choteau Hereford breeders, were reelected to the board of directors of the North Montana Hereford Breeders Ass'n at their annual dinner in Great Falls Tuesday night. JM Royal Heir, bred by John McDonald Vaughn, won grand champion at the North Montana Hereford Breeder show at the North Montana Fairgrounds Tuesday. Civil Defense Meeting Set For Tonight In Choteau

Officials of the American Auxiliary announce a public civil defense meeting this evening at 8 pm in lower Legion Hugh Potter state civil defense director will be principal speaker. City and school officials clergy heads of organizations and the public are invited.

Motorcade Planned For Choteau Bulldogs’ State Opener

A caravan of rooters will form at 12 15 at the Bowling Alley grounds next Thursday to drive to Great Falls for the Class B State tournament game between Choteau and Anaconda Central. Cecil Deming, former Bulldog mentor, coaches Anaconda Central. Persons without transport should arrive early to secure rides, Jim Dellwo said.
