In Great Falls Teton County High School finishes runner up in the north central district tourney and earns a state bid for Butte from March 7 to 10. The Bulldogs beat Chinook then Cascade before a final loss to Great Falls 33 to 21 with strong fan support from Chateau and surrounds.
County agriculturist Robert Clarkson mails the February farm letter to 300 farmers outlining the upcoming 1928 Farm Outlook, the crop tour plans, smut treatment with copper carbonate, pure seed, exchanges, and Clark McNary shelterbelt and woodlot plantings. The letter details tour itineraries from Great Falls to Billings, Lewistown, and Hardin, with potential Yellowstone Park routes, plus data aims to aid 1928 farm adjustments and lists registered seed suppliers.
The State of Montana case with B. C. Jonnusch as the complainant and Jas. Phillips was settled out of court. Both parties agreed to pay half the costs. Proceedings had been in the Justice of the Peace court with an original Feb. 16 hearing date. The matter was postponed to Feb. 25 at the request of the county attorney.
R T Ellis of Chateau is serving on the federal grand jury at Great Falls this week, participating in a key judicial proceeding.
Teton county high school places two players on the districts all-district squads with Dinty Moore as first team right forward and John Norris as second team center. George Loom also drew strong consideration for a forward spot as selections were made by tournament coaches and officials. Norris is praised as a top jumper and scorer, while Moore is highlighted as a standout with speed and consistent brilliance for Teton.
William E. Smith, a noted farmer on the Bynum settlement project, died in Choteau hospital Sunday after operations for acute pancreatitis and cerebral thrombosis. Born October 8, 1884 in Farmington Utah, he was 42. Funeral services were held for Latter Day Saints. burial preparations were made in Preston Idaho. He is survived by his widow and 11 children.
Mr and Mrs R R Mellon hosted a party of five friends at their home Tuesday evening to celebrate Mrs Mellons birthday in a intimate dinner gathering.
Judge John J. Greene of the 19th judicial district declares he will not seek re‑election this fall. He cites heavy district work and family considerations as factors, noting he wants to consider plans while still relatively young. Greene has served since 1919 after being appointed by Governor Stewart and has previously won multiple elections.
The Chateau boys band will present the first concert of a spring and summer series at Dutton on March 16 followed by a dance. The band, organized in September 1916 by County Agent Robert Clarkson, includes several boys along with a few adults and young men. Members listed include L. R. Sutton, Leon Sutton, Arthur Ramsey, Gordon Holmes, Jim Morgan, Albert Doughty, Gwenwyn Burch, Clarence Carlson, Leon Snyder, Evan Thompson, Richel Stephens, Marvin Lindseth, Jesse Malone, and Ernest Carlson among others.
The annual meeting of the Sons and Daughters of Teton's Oldest Settlers drew 165 attendees at Chateau last Friday. Otto Wagnild was named president for the year, with Paul Kropp as vice president. other officers include Mrs. Robert Miller secretary C. D. McDonald treasurer and J. B. Hodgkiss advisory board chair. Members and guests traveled from distant places to attend.
The Teton high girls defeated Power 21 to 19 Friday night at Power. The boys second team fell by one point to Power's first team. Simms teams visit Saturday for final home game ahead of Augusta tournament on March 9 and 10.
E D Forrest declares for the democratic nomination for county treasurer. He has served as deputy treasurer under Otto Wagnild, was treasurer from 1913 to 1917, and sat on the board of county commissioners. Forrest has resided in Teton county 29 years and in Chateau since 1913, and is a lifelong Democrat.
John Bjork of Bole drove to Choteau when his Ford coil trouble made him reach down and veer off the road into a seven foot ditch beside the Choteau flour mill. The car overturned, one front wheel demolished, but Bjork was uninjured and later arranged repairs.
The Chateau Lions Club endorsed H. R. 6091 and S. 1183 urging early enactment for a state forestry and resource program. President R. E. Nelson released the statement, copies sent to Montana leaders and lawmakers including McSweeney Hagen McNary Walsh Wheeler Evans Leavitt Morrell. Location: Missoula.
