Midnight Fire Damages Home Of Myrtle Less
A late night fire at Myrtle Less’s trailer home in the Cowgill addition caused minor damage and did not breach the interior. Firemen connected three hoses and quickly contained the blaze believed to start in straw insulation. Two trailer tires exploded from heat, awakening neighbors as Mrs. Loss reported the fire after seeing its reflection on her car. Police had driven by earlier without noting the fire.

LDS Building Construction Begins on Chateau Church Hall
Construction started Monday on a 120000 recreation hall addition to the Chateau LDS chapel. The 6475 square foot facility will include offices relief society rooms and a kitchen beside athletic spaces for basketball volleyball dancing and more. Local members must raise 35000 with the remainder funded by the church, and Gary Bolander oversees the project as crews work toward completion in about six months.

Local Pioneer Dies at 87 in Teton Memorial Hospital
Herbert Thomas Redmond, 87, a longtime local blacksmith and mechanic, died Wednesday morning in Teton Memorial Hospital. Born December 30, 1874, in Whitewater Wisconsin, he will be buried after funeral services Friday June 29 at 2 p.m. in Banks Chapel with Rev. A Bernard Gravdal conducting.

Paul Kropp of Conrad has been selected as one of 96 students nationwide to attend the National High School Institute at Northwestern University in Evanston. The five week summer session begins July 1 offering specialized study in engineering and science plus programs in education journalism and music. Augusta Man Dies and Services Held for John A. Cunniff
Montana native and Augusta resident John A. Cunniff 74 died at his Augusta home after a Thursday illness. Born February 13, 1888 at Bearmouth he worked at J. D. Manix Store in Augusta for 30 years and with Beach & Wellman earlier. He later served as state liquor vendor in Augusta and planned a 50th anniversary with wife Alice Nixon. Burial was in Augusta Cemetery with survivors including two children Gordon N. Cunniff and Esther Wilson, three grandsons, and brother W J Cunniff.

Choteau Youths Gear Up For Montana High School Rodeo
Choteau youngsters Ray Yeager Roger Weist and Rose Hughes departed for Glendive to compete at the Montana High School Rodeo in the state meet. More than 100 cowboys and cowgirls chase state honors with a downtown Glendive parade and rodeo attractions. Yeager won the all around award at the district rodeo with Weist Hughes also placing high to qualify for state competition.
