Plans for Chateau July Fourth Celebration

Plans call for a large town celebration in Chateau on July Fourth with over 600 in prize money. Highlights include rodeo music games and a grand fireworks display plus a ballroom and various sports. Congressman Scott Leavitt will speak and a big crowd is expected with city decorations and wide public participation.

Youth Charged With Raising Check Brought Back to Chateau

Harvey Ellsworth of Great Falls was brought to Chateau Monday night after police custody in Great Falls Saturday. The 17 year old is held on a forgery charge for raising a labor payment check from 4.15 to 40.15. He denies raising the check but admits endorsing it. Probation Officer C James Smith cannot proceed due to Judge John Greene’s vacation. The youth has prior trouble and Palagi, the Great Falls probation officer, has handled his case. The father, a postal clerk on the Great Northern between Havre and Butte, favors sending him to Miles City reform school.

Park Event Calendar With Games And Fireworks

A historical schedule shows a 10:00 a m band concert followed by a speaking program by Scott Leavitt in the park. Activities include a 12:00 lunch, 1:30 ball game Fairfield vs Cascade at Balls Park, rodeo, 6:00 supper and band, 7:00 street sports, 8:00 pavilion dance, and a 9:30 fireworks display with admission 50c or 25c for the ball game and rodeo.

Public Hearing on County Library in Teton County

County commissioners set a public hearing for July 5 at 2 p m to decide on creating a free county library. About 500 residents petitioned, Chateau Woman's Club offers 300 for first year rent and donates 5 000 volumes, with potential one mill levy and county librarian appointment.

Bole Girls Plan Pie Social at Farm Bureau Meeting

Legion Band Receives Brand New Uniforms

The local American Legion post will present 24 new uniforms for the town band. White duck trousers and sweater coats with army overseer caps are expected soon, aiming to have the ensemble ready for the Fourth of July celebration. A new buochotphone costing $325 was purchased to bolster the band.

Nose Knows Local Skunk Theft Case Under Sheriff

Under sheriff Shell Billings tracked a skunk theft after two men Elmer Rowland and Harry King hid 15 young skunks and two adults under an abandoned building near Bynum.
