A steady rain from Sunday noon through Wednesday morning measured 1.57 inches at the weather bureau and county agent reports. Wheat acreage of about 150,000 could gain two to ten bushels per acre, potentially adding up to 150,000 in income, while lamb producers might add 12,000 as lambs gain two pounds at 12 cents per head.
Frank C. Hannum a former Porter Beach farmer died in Charleston Illinois after a railroad accident. He was crossing to the express office on foot when he was struck by a train losing both feet and sustaining a serious head injury but remained able to talk until the end. He came to Conrad in 1909 and lived at Porter Beach until 1923 leaving a wife and daughter Imogene.
Oral G. Meadows, a former interim treasurer of the county, filed for the Republican nomination after serving two terms in the treasurer’s office following A. C. Warner’s death. A Missouri transplant since 1917, he operates a Deep Creek homestead with John Hentges near Chateau, is married with two children, and vows efficient, economical service if elected.
Mrs Henry Freeman of the I T ranch was operated on Wednesday morning at the Choteau hospital.
At the Lions Club meeting last week Jas Eckford who has been vice president for a year was elected to lead the club for the new year starting July 1. Robert Clarkson becomes vice president with L E Taylor as tail twister. George Tennant is secretary treasurer and Fred Smith takes the lion tamer post. R E Nelson and W E Lockhart join the board of directors.
W E Daily of Power, a well known farmer in the Power vicinity, filed last Friday for the Republican nomination for county commissioner. He pledges to fill the office to the best of his ability and resides in the area of Teton county attached from Chouteau county. He is 57 years old and has a family.
Otto Wagnild filed Saturday with County Clerk W H Webb his nominating petition on the democratic ticket for county assessor. He previously served as county treasurer from 1924 and as deputy to John Lindgren 1916 18, has lived in Teton county 32 years and held multiple local roles.
George M. Coffey Jr filed for the Republican nomination for county attorney, a post he has held for four years. A Teton County native, he is a University of Missouri Law School graduate with studies at state and Stanford, admitted to the bar in 1914, serves as local attorney for the Chicago Milwaukee St Paul and Pacific railway, and twice served as Chateau mayor overseeing civic improvements. He is married with a home in the city.
Charles H. Williams addressed a crowd at the court house in Helena on Monday night outlining his views for the U S Senate. He spoke plainly about his Montana experiences and warned against eastern conservation policies while expressing commitment to public service if elected. John Speer praised Williams’ integrity and business sense, noting he would be a proud Montanan in the Senate.
Dr. H T Rhoads formerly with Dr H W Bateman in this city arrived in Chateau Sunday from Minneapolis where the pair attended the annual American medical meeting and the Great Northern railway surgeons session. Rhoads now practices as an ear eye nose and throat specialist in Everett Washington and was joined by Bateman at Havre on the eastward trip. He remained in the city until Wednesday before continuing home to Everett.
Omer Cook sues J L Collins the Teton county sheriff in district court alleging the sheriff wrongfully failed to safely hold about 150 head of cattle and horses awarded to the plaintiff to satisfy a prior judgment against Timothy Cook. The suit seeks 2810.50 dollars plus interest and costs.
Dr H Beaupre and daughter Mrs Annie Gorham with her children arrived Saturday evening from Sunburst to visit relatives and friends in this city.
The county superintendent announced 85 students qualified for eighth grade diplomas after a combined exam and annual work assessment. Details list top averages by Helen Sollid and peers, plus graduates from Chateau and numerous towns including Dutton, Bynum, Dale, Collins, and Fairfield.
The Chateau Country club program committee schedules a Sunday June 24 mixed foursome contest marking the season's third and final date. Captains Harry Lay and Clarence Looney lead unpaid volunteers in club events with members urged to assist and join in the Christmas spirit for a successful season.
Funeral services for Vaino Linjatie, the boy killed last week when his team ran away, were held Friday at the Methodist church with Rev. E. R. Kaemmer in charge. A large number attended and floral offerings were numerous. pallbearers were neighbors of the bereaved family. Expressed sympathy came from both strangers and neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. Linjatie.
John Hannan merchant was reelected president of the Choteau Country Club for another year. G C Core agreed to remain secretary treasurer. Core and others received appointments to the board of directors and golf committees. The club reported a sound financial position with 32 members and eight vacancies.
Glen A. Smith chief of grazing for Dist. No. 1 of the U S forest service and aides toured Lewis and Clark and Jefferson forests to inspect a proposed Deep Creek stock driveway replacing the Sun River trail. Supervisor Lockhart said ranges are good and crew progress in trail work and telephone maintenance is ahead of last year with 22 men employed.
Ivan Edwin Bruner and ta zel Bartlett of Dupuyer received a licence to wed last Friday. The couple was married here by Rev. H. W. Woods of Valier with Dessa Bartlett and Duane Bruner as attendants.
County Agent Robert Clarkson notes a Blaine Phillips and Valley counties delegation will join the Teton Cascade group in Lewistown for a crop tour leaving Great Falls Sunday July 15. Billings will add Yellow stone representatives. only Teton and Cascade go to Cody Wyoming and through Yellowstone Park. Participants will carry banners promoting local resources such as land values grain yields and livestock values. Estimated signers include Bert Jannusch Pendroy Goodwin Odden Dutton Pete Peterson Dutton C J Cutt Power I C Keister Power L G Passmore Cecil Passmore Farmington J E Baker Fairfield D P Fabrick Chateau. Many will provide cars with about four passengers each. rain may increase turnout.
Donald Kerr, a longtime Teton county resident born in Scotland in 1880, filed for county commissioner. He has served six years on the board, helped reduce county debt from 638334.45 to 462000, and plans a 100000 road and bridge bond to further cut indebtedness. Kerr co operates with his uncle Charles Ballantyne in the ranching business in northeastern Teton county.
Mr and Mrs Harry Morrison of Helena spent Sunday with Mr and Mrs Bert J Packer in this city. Mrs Packer and Mrs Morrison are sisters.
