Chateau Fourth of July Parade Boasts Bigger Entry List

Chateau Chamber of Commerce sponsors a larger parade this year with more entries than last year. Jack Carpenter announces cash prizes for floats and novelty entries and 50 cents to every parade participant. Rodeo activities run July 3 and 4 with multiple prize categories and entry fees. Contestants urged to submit entries by July 3.

Local Pool Teaches 113 Choteau Youth In Four Classes

About 113 Choteau youngsters are registered for four swimming classes at the local pool under manager Stan Rathman. Additional sessions include roughly 60 Dut ton children and an unknown number from Fairfield. Classes meet twice weekly for 45 minutes to an hour with staggered start times and varied groups.

Sid Johnson, former assistant manager at Anaconda, succeeds Jim Henderson as manager of the Choteau J C Penney store. Henderson departs after 11 years as manager to run a Colfax Wash outlet. Johnson is a Montana State University graduate and Navy veteran with ties to Havre Spokane and Missoula.

Aerial Mosquito Spraying Planned for Choteau Weekend

City residents are told a 600 gallon DDT spray from a plane will cover Choteau in criss cross passes this weekend weather permitting. The operation may run Friday morning to Saturday evening with loudspeakers directing timing. Washing should be brought inside and cars may have temporary spots but otherwise remain undamaged.

Rain and crop prospects rise in Montana June report

Montana farmers enjoy unusually high rainfall in June with Choteau recording 4.06 inches for the month and statewide moisture improving soil that supports good crop growth. Wheat and haying advance, cattle gains improve, while some areas still face localized moisture shortages and delayed farming.

Legion Squad To Play Two Baseball Games

The Choteau Legion Junior nine will host Sunburst this Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at the legion field north of the rodeo grounds. Fred Jackson will start on the mound with Tony Jaconetty catching, and infielders include Jay Dunckel at second Roger Gefeller at short and Gene Depner at third. Outfielders are Mike Snyder Ken Rustad and Jim Talifson. A makeup game with Fairfield is planned for Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Chateau Park if weather cooperates.

Class of 1937 Reunion At Choteau July 6 8

Choteau high school class of 1937 will hold a reunion in Choteau with Mary Elen Burns as chair. The group meets at 6 30 p m at the Antler for cocktails then moves to Cornell Cafe for a banquet at 7 30 p m. Several out of state members plan to attend and all classmates are urged to join on Saturday night July 8.

Final date set for Teton farmers to request 1958 allotments

Teton county wheat producers moved to approve 1958 marketing quotas alongside national results. Chairman Lyall Schaefer reported 970 eligible producers in the June 20 referendum, with 831 in favor, 76 opposed and five ineligible. July 1 is the deadline to file new wheat farm allotment applications, with penalties on overages and eligibility rules explained.

Buck Rose wed in double ring ceremony at Simms

Carol R Buck and Donald W Rose exchanged vows in a double ring ceremony at Simms Community Church on June 16.
