Teton county ranks among Montana’s top three for shelterbelt tree use sourced from the Missoula State university forestry school nursery. A survey team led by Jack E. Schmautz and Ray F. Greer notes 41 000 trees ordered by local farmers over two years. The program, started at Chateau, includes support from Dean Kenneth P. Davis and Prof. V. E. Iverson.

Former Bole Rancher Dies in Explosion
Erick W Johnsor, a former rancher of the Bole community, was instantly killed in an explosion at Coulee City on June 14. His sister Mrs. John Olstad and brothers Walter Johnson Marvin and Laverne Berglund of Fairfield attended the funeral held June 17 at Smith Funeral Home.

Miller to Join State School Staff as Deputy Superintendent

Bernard Johnson of Choteau appointed local representative for Miles City Wool Warehouse in Choteau succeeding Phil Cole. He has prior experience handling lambs and sheep at West Fargo stock yards and is married with two children. The Miles City Wool Warehouse, built May 1945 in Miles City, features 1 9500 rounds capacity, conveyor loading, and a well lighted wool display. Old Time Resident Visits Friends in Choteau
Thomas J. Richards of Puente California, a long time Choteau area resident, visited friends this week before returning home. He first came to Choteau in 1883 when it had about 300 residents and Indians dominated the town. Only two white women then, including his mother. He left in 1913 and now runs a fish cannery in California. He notes the Beaupre hotel is one of the few landmarks identifiable from 34 years ago when he departed.

Chris Hamilton Dies in Sleep at Chateau
Chris Hamilton aged 64 well known section foreman for the Milwaukee Road at Chateau was found dead in bed this morning. He apparently died of a heart attack during the night after forty years in railroad work, much of it at Chateau. Funeral plans at St Joseph's parish are pending as relatives are notified.

Frank Allum Suffers Stroke at Kalispell Home
Frank Allum who ran a dray and transfer service at Chateau for 16 years suffered a stroke at his Kalispell home and is recovering slowly his speech impaired so he speaks only slightly his son Bill Allum of Choteau said Allum sold his Choteau transfer business two years ago and moved to Kalispell to retire He operated the dray from 1919 to 1944 and had a weakened heart for years.

Foundation Laid for Hensley Tourist Cottages
Foundations for the Hensley tourist cottages on the south side are complete. Garrett Toren reports the 112 by 20 foot addition to the existing 72 by 100 foot unit will enlarge the court to eight rental units plus a housekeeper cottage. The cabins, rebuilt from an army barracks from Gore Field, will be under one roof in an L shape with a separate rectangular building. The project aims for unfurnished rentals by Sept 1 with bedding equipment and modern panel ray heaters to be installed and gas stoves arriving soon. The structure will be moved from Great Falls by Forrest Zion within two weeks to seven lots south of the J. C. Salmond residence.

More than 5 000 leaflets advertising the Choteau rodeo will be dropped by the Choteau Flying Service over northern Montana towns early next week. Some leaflets offer free admissions valid either day. Dies at Conrad. Cornelius Bouma former ranch owner
Cornelius Bouma an old time Conrad resident and former T L Gap area ranch owner died June 14 at St Mauris hospital Conrad after an extended illness. Funeral services were held at the First Reformed church with Rev Van Dyke in charge. Interment was in Hillside cemetery. Survivors include three sons Herman Cones trent and Charles two daughters Mrs Velma Baker and Mrs Ethel Laser, two brothers John Bouma and another living in Holland.

Two Men Sentenced At Te ton County Court Session
John Leo Hurick of Altona Pennsylvania pled guilty to grand larceny for stealing a watch and received two years at hard labor in Deer Lodge state penitentiary. Robert Burns of Columbus Ohio pled guilty to giving intoxicating liquor to a minor and was sentenced to six months in the Te ton county jail.
