Rainbow Family Camp Permitted at Jones Creek

Teton County Sheriff Pete Howard and District Forest Ranger Lloyd Swanger held two public meetings to announce that the Rainbow Family may encamp on public land in the Teton District. About 100 people were present as officials pledged equal treatment and a location away from the public, with North Fork West Fork and Cave Mountain camps open to the public and Summit Campground opening July 1.

Two County Vehicle Accidents Reported By Highway Patrol

Two Montana accidents near Dutton and Fairfield left one man seriously injured and caused heavy vehicle damage. In the first, a new tractor trailer rolled on a curve. driver Jack Jones was cited for a basic rule violation. In the second, two cars collided. Earlene Ostberg and Charles McDermott and two children were treated and released or remained under care in Great Falls hospitals.

Paul K. Lee Dies Monday in Great Falls

Paul Kenneth Lee 66 died June 21 at Park Place Nursing Home in Great Falls after a long illness. Funeral June 24 at Grace Lutheran Church Fairfield with Rev. Noer. burial Sunset Hills Cemetery Fairfield. He served in WWII Navy and belonged to Abory Dehnert Post No. 4107. Survivors include widow Thelma, sons Dennis Lee Great Falls and Kenneth Pedersen Newport NC, Bill Pedersen Fairfield, daughters Betty Nelson Rapid City SD and Sharlene Oakley Bainbridge WA, brothers Lyle Seattle and Dale Fairfield, plus 14 grandchildren.

Monitor Fund Reaches $10110 85 For Heart Monitoring Project

Fairfield Community Medical Auxiliary sent a $275 donation to the Heart Monitor Fund. Other donors include Gus and Betty Kade Nettie McDonald and the Premium Center Community Center. Memorials honor Frances M Juelfs Grace Halvorson and Jessie Powell. The Teton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary seeks $13000 for the ICU Heart Monitoring system and thanks contributors since January. Study Commissioners Propose Commission-Manager System

A public meeting in Fairfield discussed the tentative report of Teton County Local Government Study Commission. An informal poll showed one no vote and the rest either undecided or in favor of an alternative commission-manager system with a preference for a five-man part-time commission if mechanics can be worked out.

Transfer Appoints Roger Kelly Patrolman at Choteau

Roger Kelly is transferred by the Montana Highway Patrol from Great Falls to Choteau effective June 7. He replaces Andy Sangray who moved to Great Falls. Kelly, son of Mr and Mrs Ray Kelly of Choteau, is a Chateau High School graduate and former U S Army military policeman and deputy with Flathead County. He is married to Carol Wedum.

Choteau Bicentennial Weekend Packed With Parades and Events

A two day July 3 4 celebration features family parades rodeo an old fashioned potluck picnic a non denominational service a beard and moustache contest jackpot roping dancing and a fireworks finale. Swim Instruction Program Hampered by Cool Weather

The Lions pool will shift the major swim instruction to July 5 through August 13 due to cool rainy weather delaying the first phase. A lifesaving course runs 10 to 12 daily, with a water polo slot added from 8 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting June 29, and no pre-registration required.

Two Choteau Girls Set for Summer Abroad

Two Choteau girls depart for the Americans Abroad Program to spend the summer in Brazil and Germany. Sue Otness will study in Sao Paulo with the Figueiredo family and attend classes while staying on a farm. Sally Evensen will live with the Halkemeyer family in Osnabruck.

Counselor Named for Teton County Alcoholism Outreach

Henrietta Hoelbinger of Shelby has been appointed outreach counselor for Alcoholism in Teton County. She spent most of the last 15 years in Shelby and recently moved to Chateau to serve the area. For questions call 466 2803. She works with Hilltop Recovery Center of Havre.

Fireworks Donations Near July Fourth Goal

Donations to the July 4 fireworks fund rose to 800 dollars with over 500 more needed to reach 1300. Dunckel Replaces Patton on City Council in Cascade

Jay Dunckel was elected Monday to fill the unexpired council term of Dr. Bill Patton who recently moved to Cascade. The term runs to April 1979. A special improvement district in Country Club Addition will fund a new sewer line with a hearing set for July 9.

City Study Commission Sets Meeting

The City Local Government Study Commission will hold a public hearing at 8 p.m. on July 7 in the courthouse courtroom in Choteau. A tentative report has been distributed to every household by the Girl Scout and Boy Scout units.

Weather records show scarce rainfall across area

Rainfall totals remain low with .78 inches collected over the past week at Chateau Airport. Daily readings include .07 inches on Wednesday and .08 on Thursday, while most days show zero moisture amid cool, cloudy conditions and limited relief from showers.

Teton County Treasurer Connie Kuster announced a complete list of delinquent tax property is on file in Choteau. Any property remaining delinquent on Monday July 19 will be sold in front of the Treasurer's office at public auction.

School Budgets To Be Adopted In Teton County

County Superintendent Norma Denny announced that trustees in all elementary and high school districts will meet June 28 to prepare and adopt preliminary budgets for the coming fiscal year. Taxpayers may attend these meetings.

Band Members Needed For July 4th Parade

High school students former students or community musicians are invited to march in the Fourth of July parade four blocks up Main Street and back. The band will wear white shirts and jeans under local maestro Lloyd Reynolds. Practices are Tuesday June 29 and Thursday July 1 at 7 p.m. in the high school music room.
