Remneus pitched for Choteau and scored all runs for his team as Valier’s strong lineup dominated. Valier’s timely hitting and Choteau fielding lapses left the game with a lopsided final, suggesting Valier may not be beaten by any Teton county team this season.
In Choteau area John Lyon reports nonirrigated crops thriving with winter wheat between 30 and 35 inches tall and headed out, spring sown wheat 15 inches high, and oats up to 18 inches. Gopher and grasshopper damage along field edges noted. Recent showers boost expected yield to average or better if rains continue.
Pat Crossen of Choteau named to the first board of directors for the new Montana Life Insurance company organized at Helena. His two year term places him among Montana business men backing the venture with heavy stock. W. G. Conrad serves as president.
The Angus shearing crew finished at the Luttle ranch and moved to the Larson band on the lower Seton yesterday. Puttle flocks reported heavy quality fleeces. The Dr Malone band at Saypo also sheared early in the season as first in the region. Dr Malone’s men passed through town for market.
The U S Senate passed the act admitting Arizona and New Mexico as separate states Taft signed the enabling act and the plan moves forward. The outlook for the wheat crop remains bleak with prices rising steadily. A fatal incident occurred when four men drowned June 16 in a lake created by the Shoshone dam in Wyoming after a motor boat capsized.

Chateau Montana June 6 1916 board met regular session at 10 a.m. Present Chairman Geo I Miller Commissioner Keary yan and clerk Absent HB Auhes. Minutes read and approved officers reports for quarter ending May 31 1910. Warrant payments totaled 5402 57 on Contingent fund and 2300 on General fund. Various county district and school officers reports approved. Board allocated licenses for liquor and reviewed official fees and fines. Afternoon session included road work petitions hearings and road surveys with multiple road district actions and bond approvals. Continued to June 8 and 10 with census updates for towns of Waller and Cat Bank.
Preliminary arrangements begin to launch a drive for fire protection in Chateau. Citizens will be surveyed on the proposal to petition county commissioners to establish fire limits and levy taxes for fire apparatus and a fire warden. J. E. DeHaas leads the effort and invites interested parties to learn the facts and costs involved.
The local creamery reports rising output and expanding markets with shipments to Great Falls Conrad Dutton and Brady as well as a Brady ditch construction camp. Butterfat prices are currently low but expected to rise with cooler weather while the creamery maintains strong ice cream production and operates its feed mill at capacity.
County flax acreage rises with favorable conditions and drought resistance noted. Commissioner Geo F Miller brought in a 17 inch wild flax specimen from his ranch field showing thrifty growth. Wild flax grows locally and near the mountains where it prospers in dry spots.
The Ralston brothers and Wm Garris report a major coal find near the Sun River pass straddling Teton and Flathead counties. Veins are thick and underlie a large area with tests indicating high quality coking coal. If confirmed, railroad construction could spark a vast mining town in the Rockies.
A week of rains including Thursday, Monday, and Tuesday showers refreshed range, aided native hay and winter wheat, and gave farmers some return for effort. Irrigated ranchers report better prospects than last year despite late season. Some fields show late planting and uneven sprouting, but the Burton beach north side remains in fine condition with good crops likely.
