Big July Fourth plans in Choteau include rodeo and parade

Choteau American Legion announces a July 3 rodeo jackpot and dance, a July 4 pancake breakfast by the Jaycees, and a noon parade with expanded float entries. The RCA rodeo follows and a $600 fireworks show caps the day. Funds rely on free will offerings to support the Fire Department display.

July 4 Fireworks Drive Seeks $300 More From Area

The Fireworks Committee chair Leo Pierre reports donations are at halfway to fund the annual July 4 display in Chateau and vicinity with two weeks left. A recent gift comes from Dr. E J Crary of Austell Georgia along with numerous local residents and businesses contributing to the effort.

Choteau Jaycees Sponsor July Art Exhibit in City Park

Choteau Jaycees announce Art on the Green a two day exhibit in City Park on July 17 and 18 from 10 am to 6 pm. Adrian Dargan says the event will showcase oils watercolors graphics sculpture woodcarving weaving and jewelry with separate spaces for professionals and amateurs. A $3 registration fee applies per artist with no Jaycees commission. dealers pay 10 percent on sales.

Blood Drive Rescheduled June 30 at Chateau Methodist

Blood donors are urged to give at the June 30 drawing in the Chateau Methodist Church basement. The shift from July 26 follows a shortage at Great Falls Blood Bank ahead of the July 4 holiday. Donors aged 18 to 65 in good health may participate with parental consent for ages 18 to 21.

Poppy Poster Winners Toasted at Legion Auxiliary Meeting

A special meeting of C. James Smith Unit No 6 American Legion Auxiliary will be held June 21 at 8 p.m. in the lower Legion hall with Poppy Poster contest winners and their parents as guests. Class I winners are Lyle Baker first Zales Davidson second Peter Richert third. Class II winners Lorilyn Styren first Debbie Norden second Rodney Woolney third. First place posters advance to the state contest in July.

Babe Ruthers Win Two More League Games

The Chateau Babe Ruth team extended its season record to 6 wins and 1 loss with two league victories. Monday, Choteau beat Conrad No. 2 21 to 5 after trailing 5-0, with Mark Spinder earning the win and 12 strikeouts. Spinder, Buck, and Forrest led the hitters, each with a hit and a run.

Large Winter Wheat Crop Forecast in Montana

Montana's 1971 winter wheat crop is forecast at 55,676,000 bushels based on June 1 conditions, up 33 percent from last year. The crop covers about 1,796,000 acres with an expected yield of 31 bushels per harvested acre, aided by favorable spring weather and May rainfall.

Choteau Bowlers Earn State Meet Placings

Local bowlers finished in Helena at the State Bowling Tournament. Louis Asmus took fifth in 165 average and under, with John Toenyes 36th. Cal Southard placed 44th in the 179 singles. In doubles 330 average, Toenyes and Glen Wills were eighth, Murphy and Larson 25th, Zier and Page 55th. In 165 and under singles Asmus 17th, Page 20th, Monkman 38th, Inbody 62nd, Toenyes 82nd, Zier 99th.

Fire damages H and H Implement shop

A Monday night fire gutted the H and H Implement Honda repair area and spread into the main shop. Firefighters fought five hoses as intense heat blew out windows and delayed entry until a large garage door was opened. Four motorcycles and a 60 passenger bus were damaged. front store operations continued. Insurance covers the incident.

Washington Cyclists To Visit Choteau

A group of 15 Mercer Island junior high students and their teacher will visit Choteau on Monday June 21 while en route to Washington DC. They left June 11 and aim to reach the capital by August 8, staying in churches schools or other buildings along the route. Residents are invited to meet them and hear about their journey. Teacher Frances Call previously led a similar trip to DC last summer and arrived on schedule.

Veterinarian Degree Earned at Washington State University

Judith Morris Anderson daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred E Morris of Chateau graduated June 6 from Washington State University Pullman with distinction in veterinary medicine. She is a member of Iota Chapter of Phi Zeta honorary society and tied for salutatorian at Chateau High School in 1964. She attended Montana State University before WSU and married Mckee Anderson of Saco in August 1970.

Museum Opens For Summer In Teton Valley

Teton Trail Museum opened last Saturday and will be open daily from 10 am to 9 pm through the tourist season. Owned by Mr and Mrs Robert Zion of Chateau the museum will be run again this summer by Jack Richardson assisted by Louise Dreyer and Pam Vigen. The Zions are building an old time blacksmith shop on the grounds and plan further additions. Local residents are invited to visit and view the history on display.

Fairfield appoints Alan D. Knudsen Teton County agent

Alan D. Knudsen is named Teton County Extension agent based in Fairfield effective July 1, succeeding resigning Glenn Harruff. He will share duties with George M. Goodwin at Chateau and is a Scobey native with an animal science degree from Montana State University. He served in Vietnam and worked in Extension Service prior to acting agent in Sanders County. Knudsen is a former 4-H and FFA member. his wife Frances and their one year old son Judd accompany him.

Dellwo Receives Degree at Western Montana College

Betty Jo Dellwo daughter of Mr and Mrs James J Dellwo of Choteau earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education at Western Montana College Dillon commencement on Saturday June 5. She received the Outstanding Senior Girl Award and has a teaching contract in Conrad for the coming school year.

Swimming Lessons Start June 28 Regular Classes Begin

Regular beginners intermediate and advanced swimming lessons will commence Monday June 28. All persons interested in joining the competitive diving team are asked to meet at the pool at 9 a.m. on Friday June 18. More information on swim classes will be published next week.
