Virginia Allum Elected Montana 4-H Club President

An Associated Press dispatch from Bozeman reports Virginia Allum of Choteau was elected president of Montana 4 H clubs at the eighth annual convention in Bozeman. She is one of Teton county’s five delegates. two years ago a Teton county team won state honors in Great Falls. Mrs. H L Stafford led the club, Jimmy Baker of Cascade county was named vice president, and Miss Allum succeeds Stanley Shuey of Rosebud county.

Kenneth Murray of Chateau and Mabel Else of Wisdom wed on Monday in Dillon. Murray is Jasper Murray's son. The couple will reside here, the report says.

All County 4-H Picnic Set for June 27 at Dutton Park

County Agent Fred Willson says the third annual all county 4-H picnic will be at Dutton park on Sunday June 27 with music a short program races and a county wide baseball game between top 4-H teams. Prizes include cash for race events and participants are urged to attend and keep quiet during the program.

Farm Union Guests to Attend Chateau Picnic in TeTon County

About 500 Teton county farm folks are expected in the city next Tuesday for the annual Farmers Union picnic at the town park. Mayor Burns will greet visitors, Wellenstein will respond, and D L OConnor of St Paul will deliver the main address. Music by Chateau band, baseball, street sports, and a dance with Tracy’s WaHoos are planned.

Taxpayers Association Discusses Co. Taxes

The Montana Taxpayers Association reports county operation costs steady over ten years while the tax base fell about 25 percent. In 1926 Montana’s taxable valuation was 435.5 million with 3.42 million in county general taxes. by 1936 valuation dropped by 100 million, yet general fund costs were 3.34 million, signaling looming tax hikes and budget cuts for next year.

June old age assistance payroll for Teton county totals 1918.50 with one death, Mrs. Deret Storey, and dependents payout 161 for June. Statewide about 10,000 persons eligible with average 20.80 and total near 208000. 400 counties have sent payrolls for dependents with over 2400 children benefiting and June totals likely exceed 27000. State appropriation is 800000 with federal share covering two thirds and counties one sixth. transfers from other funds may boost old age aid.

Scouts Prepare for National Jamboree in Washington

Walter Hentges and Robert Proff of Scout troop No 51 lead a 44 member North Central Montana Council group to the Boy Scout Jamboree in Washington D C from June 30 to July 9. Stops include Chicago Niagara Falls New York City Akron and return July 12. Sea Scouts from Fort Benton join the trip with others from Havre and 25 000 scouts expected at the event.
