Cowboys Win Prize Money Set For July Chateau Rodeo

The Americans Legion rodeo committee announced prize totals for the two day Chateau rodeo on July 3 and 4. Prizes total 1800 with six events including saddle bronc calf roping bulldogging bareback bronc wild cow milking and the wild horse race. Rose C Janke Dies After Heart Attack in Fairfield

Rose Caro lyn Janke 57 of Fairfield died at Chateau hospital Tuesday after a heart attack. Funeral at 2 PM today at St Pauls Church Fairfield with Rev. A Bern ard Gravdal officiating. Born January 29 1895 in Sarota South Russia she arrived in the US in 1905 later marrying John Janke in 1908. The couple lived in Terry Montana before settling in Fairfield in 1937. Surviving are husband seven children Otto and Waldermire Janke Edward Iren Janke Hilda Parish Emil Neiffer Clementine Flagel.

Farmers Union Building Elevator Construction Starts

Construction began yesterday on a new Farmers Union grain elevator near the Great Northern line, to be shared by the Grain Terminal association. It will have a 50 000 bushel capacity and sit a short distance south of the Gallatin Valley elevator.

Veteran Bonus Pay Start This Saturday in Montana

About 700 World War II veterans in Teton county have applied for state bonus payments, with an estimated 1,000 eligible statewide. Payments begin this Saturday in the order of applications. $2,051,692 remains in the state kitty. Governor Bonner notes bond-funded payments, and applications are open until December.

Pishkun Lake Receives 5020 Trout In Planting

The Pishkun reservoir 20 miles southwest of Chateau received 5020 legal-size trout planted Tuesday by the Great Falls hatchery. Officials Frank Gordon Orville Talifson and Gottlieb Christman of Choteau assisted, with Jim Hamilton of the Teton Sportsmen's Association announcing no other local plantings this week.

Stop Punchboards Ordered by Montana Attorney General

Attorney General Arnold H Olsen directed Heman to enforce gambling and lottery laws after the Montana Supreme Court affirmed the Deniff case and ruled punchboards and pull boards illegal. Chateau collected 2936.58 in punchboard taxes from July 18, 1951 to March 31, with a typical yearly yield near 3350 dollars.

Grand Opening At Halvorson's Gift Store

About 500 people attended the grand opening of Halvorson's gift store at Chateau last Saturday. Visitors received a China leaf ash tray or pin tray. Door prize winners were Lil lian Anderson, Mrs Gottlieb Depner, and Mrs Frieda Reinmiller who won a Lazy Susan, Spice Island Dutch cabinet, and a sterling silver candle holder. Attendees praised the store's modern appearance.
