Montana property taxes rise sharply in 1975 76

Helena reports Montana property tax bills for 1975 76 total 2667 million dollars, up 344 million from the prior year and the largest dollar increase in state history. The Montana Taxpayers Association notes four year tax gains of 814 million and compares it to earlier slow growth from 1921 to 1959. Teton County levies total 3561629 for 1976.

Community urged to enter July 4 Bicentennial parade

Dr. C W Boussard urges local organizations to enter a float for the July 4 parade in Chateau. Nearly $600 in prize money will be shared among winners. Events include a July 3 children parade, park activities, a Bicentennial Salute, a beef barbecue, and a street dance. Rodeo entries have a June 29 deadline.

Tax Board Sets Hearings For Appeals

The Teton County Tax Appeal Board will meet Monday June 21 at 10 a.m. in the courthouse in Chateau to hear protests on Department of Revenue assessments and continue until finished but no later than August 9. Written applications for reduction reclassification or appraisal must be filed with the County Clerk and Recorder in Chateau by July 19 on forms provided at the Clerk and Recorder Assessor or Land Classification offices. Applications trigger advance hearing notice and the assessment and map book are available for inspection.

Girl Scout Squares Dance Practice Sessions Scheduled

Girl Scouts will practice square dancing for the Bicentennial Liberty Expo. The first session is Friday night, June 11 at 7 p.m. in the pavilion, followed by a second session on Thursday night, June 17 at 7 p.m. in the pavilion. Attendance is requested for those planning to attend Liberty Expo in Great Falls on June 18 to 20.

Chateau Lions Club Pool Opens Monday With Lifesaving Classes

The Chateau Lions Club pool opens Monday June 14 with staff including Stan Rathman Wayne Krahe Kirk Dunckel Chuck Nauck and Mary Rathman Red Cross lifesaving preregistration for juniors and seniors is Tuesday June 15 with 10 am to 12 noon classes Swimmers must be at least 12 for junior and 15 for senior lessons begin June 28 Public hours are 2 4 30 pm and 7 9 pm Ticket prices include Season 25 Daily 12 High School 0 75 Grade School 0 50 A swim team meeting is set for Monday June 14 at 9 am at the pool to discuss practice schedules and plans for the season.

Chateau Chamber Sets Special Meet For Tuesday

The Chateau Chamber of Commerce held a regular meeting Tuesday with progress on parade plans and July 4 activities. A special meeting is set for next Tuesday at 7 a.m. at the Sip and Sup to finalize those plans. Gale Isakson noted the north Du puyer tourist sign needs repair or removal. Bill McCauley appointed Jack Rogers to head the sign repair. McCauley said a carnival firm asked to hold a street carnival in Chateau on Monday August 2 and he will investigate.

Bicentennial Meeting Set at Courthouse

The Chateau Bicentennial Celebration Committee will meet Thursday June 10 at 8 pm in the courthouse to finalize and coordinate the July 8 and 4 parades and activities. Any interested person or organization is welcome to attend.

Nearly 200 Contestants for H S Rodeo in District 3

Choteau hosts the District 3 High School Rodeo with about 200 entrants from 22 Choteau High School riders in 14 events. The three day event begins Friday at 6 pm with performances Friday and Saturday plus a Sunday finals, crowning champions from prior days.

Memorial honors raise as Monitor Fund tops $9500

The Teton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Monitor Fund receipts grew to more than 9500 this week with memorials for Mrs. Alvina Newman Grafs trom and Mrs. Elsie Gamradt from Mr. and Mrs. Everett Newman of Houma Louisiana. Additional gifts came from Choteau Jaycees and local residents including Goodell Hodgskiss Henderson and Len Toren.

Rainfall Totals Reported Across Local Station

A week of cloudy damp weather produced 0.76 inches of moisture at the Chateau Weather Creek station, with spots around 0.44 inches at Chateau Airport on Friday night. Some residents measured about 0.05 inches. The rain eased drought on fields and range land in the area.

Foothills Opens Doors On Thursday

The Foothills, a new men and boys clothing store, opens this Thursday June 10 next to Coast to Coast. Construction is complete and merchandise arrived enabling the opening. Owners Charlie and Marsha Hinch invite everyone to visit, enjoy coffee, and get acquainted. a grand opening is planned for early July.
