John E Lewis aged 52 longtime Pendroy resident and Montan a elevator manager died last Friday at Maynard hospital from pneumonia and complications including asthma He was born February 27 1886 in Fargo ND and moved to Teton county in 1909 He married Lydia Torgerson in Conrad in 1912 The couple later lived near Pendroy and he owned property including the Homer Pfrimmer place He is survived by his wife two children Marion and Roy his mother Mrs Margaret Lewis of Seattle and two sisters all arriving for the funeral He was a member of Chateau Lodge No 44 A F and A M and a former Republican county commissioner candidate Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Methodist church with Masonic committal at Chateau cemetery The service featured a quartet and several honorary pallbearers with many floral offerings.

Former Mayor C W Burns received petition forms to seek initiation of a $3,000,000 road debenture bond measure funded from future state gasoline tax receipts. To place the issue on the primary ballot 18,000 valid signatures are required by July 1, with six petitions in Teton county to be circulated. Burglar entered the Pishkun CCC Camp officers quarters during a Saturday night outing and stole a pickup truck and 265 dollars. Sheriff J L Billings notified surrounding towns, the car was later found abandoned in Great Falls, and a missing youth James B Piskadlo is under warrant with fingerprints on file. FBI identification bureau alerted for apprehension. A carpenter shop entry yielded a hasp removal.

Dr H W Bateman of this city filed last Friday for the office of state senator from Teton county on the republican ticket. He was born in Lexington Minnesota and studied medicine at the University of Iowa before entering practice in Augusta and Chateau. He helped form Chateau hospital, later expanding the facility and forming a new partnership with Dr R G Keeton. Bateman has farm interests near Fairfield and land near Pishkun reservoir, served as mayor of Choteau ten years ago, and has been active in Lions and county education boards. He served in the army medical corps during World War I and is a county physician with two children H W Bateman Jr and Helen Bateman. His wife Mrs Bateman died last February.
