City eyes stop for bikes to curb sidewalk danger
Chamber of Commerce President Walter Henneford urged a city ordinance to paint a 36 inch stop by sidewalks to park bikes in the main city area. He noted last year’s discussion produced no action. City Attorney Leo Murphy said action may be possible by city fathers. Arnold C. Hanusa warned of an initiative petition for a revised workers compensation measure, with Montana Farmers Union not participating this year. The chamber also discussed inviting Canadians to travel Highway 89 through Chateau to attract visitors who spent $30 to $60 each during Canadian Trade Days. Bids opened in Helena before Bishop Gilmore for a 38 by 16 foot church to be built by Great Falls contractors. Total contracts total 48 979 with Palmer Construction Company general, Pinski Bros plumbing, Edwin Johnson heating, Goggins and Pennie electrical. The building replaces an earlier 1916 frame structure donated by Sen. T. C. Power. The project traces to earlier plans under Rev. Russel Scheidler and Rev. Albert Kaparich, with a brick basement, nave, sanctuary, multiple sacristies, and a unique four glue laminated arch roof supported by wood sheathing. The site will face east with a future auditorium and kitchen.

Junior Reserve Camp Set For Three Day Teton Union
The Teton County Farmers Union met at Beck School House with Juell in charge and announced a three day Junior Reserve camp at Moose Hall Chateau on July 8 to 10. Mrs Gordon Monkman will run the school and Mrs Joe Homberg will oversee commissary duties. Teachers from Montana universities will attend the camp and school June 13 through 27. Don Chapman spoke on agricultural issues and FU policies, noting his Washington trip and the Stevens McCarthy trial. Lawrence Gunderson of Power earned a scholarship to a citizenship encampment in New York for six weeks starting late July. The next meeting is at Greenfield School on July 20.

Dryman Case Transfer Moves Retrial Papers
County Attorney Leo Murphy announced that all records of the Frank R. Dryman case, also known as Frank R. Valentine, who faced two death sentences for the murder of Clarence Pellett, have been transferred to the court here. District Judge R. M. Hattersley ordered Toole county court to send all records and exhibits to our court. The trial date in Chateau remains undetermined as Dryman faced a prior death sentence by hanging and a later jury verdict. the Montana Supreme Court ordered transfer for a retrial in a new county.

Minnows Authorized for Bait in Marias River System
Montana Fish and Game Commission allows minnow use for bait in the main stem of the Marias River to the Missouri confluence. No minnows in tributaries except sculpins with heads removed. Authorization also covers Lake Francis in Pondera County and Bynum and Kropp Arod Reservoirs. Set lines allowed on the Marias from the confluence to Sullivan Bridge with limits of 100 feet, six hooks per line, and four lines per person.

Poppy Sale Reported As Very Successful
The Legion Auxiliary Unit state the Memorial Poppy sale on Saturday May 29 was very successful. Half the proceeds go to veterans benefits and half stay for local veteran rehabilitation care and child welfare. About 156000 poppies were made at Fort Harrison with 27 million total made in veterans hospitals.

Annual Rodeo Set for Choteau July 3 and 4
