Death of E C Garrett Former County Clerk of Teton
E C Garrett longtime Montana public servant and former county clerk of Teton by ten years before 1919 died in St Louis at 70. A veteran of the Third U S Infantry he helped found early Chouteau and Teton progress. He came to Chateau in 1882 and formed business and legal partnerships, later serving in territorial government and at the constitutional convention.

The Great Northern Carmen's Association picnic at Chateau drew about 500 people, far below the hoped 1,000, despite a heat wave and a brief rain squall. A. J. McKenzie organized coffee and lemonade while the Woman's Club and local merchants ran stands. A baseball game against Bynum ended 10-6 in favor of Bynum, with net profits for the Woman's Club around $60 and local groups covering about $10 in extra costs for bringing in the visiting team.
